The readiness of Makkah and the holy sites' roads for the Hajj season has been increased with the addition of 123 bridges
The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the completion of the road and infrastructure system in Mecca and the Holy Sites, as part of its comprehensive operational plan in preparation for the 1447 AH Hajj season. In its ongoing efforts to provide the best services, the Ministry explained that the work completed on the ground included record-breaking figures reflecting the scale of the achievement. More than 11 million linear meters of roads were constructed, along with the treatment and development of approximately 74 million square meters of road surfaces. Furthermore, the work extended to the paving of more than 1.2 million square meters, which effectively contributes to enhancing the readiness of the traffic network and supports efficient traffic flow in Makkah and the Holy Sites during the peak season.
123 bridges and 44 tunnels have been made ready to serve pilgrims
To ensure the highest levels of safety and comfort, the Ministry stated that the operational plan included upgrading 123 bridges and 44 tunnels designated for both pedestrians and vehicles. In addition, comprehensive infrastructure improvements were implemented along main and secondary traffic routes. These engineering enhancements directly contribute to improving traffic safety and increasing the efficiency of movement in vital locations and around the Holy Sites, thus reducing the likelihood of accidents or congestion.
