Rwandan Minister of Islamic Affairs and Grand Mufti: Talks to promote moderation

As part of ongoing efforts to promote joint Islamic communication and build bridges of cooperation with religious leaders in the African continent, His Excellency the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Latif bin Abdulaziz Al Sheikh, received in his office in Jeddah today the Mufti of the Republic of Rwanda and President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Musa Sindayagaya, and his accompanying delegation, who are currently on an official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Discussions during the meeting focused on several issues of mutual interest, with the agenda primarily addressing ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of Islamic work and outreach. The two sides discussed effective mechanisms for disseminating the moderate and balanced approach adopted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a firmly established principle, in addition to exploring ways to promote the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence among all segments of society, and to reject all forms of extremism, fanaticism, and hatred.

This visit comes within the framework of the leading role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince – may God protect them – in serving Islam and Muslims worldwide. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs strives diligently to correct misconceptions about the true Islamic faith and to highlight its authentic image based on mercy and justice. This is achieved through strategic partnerships with official religious institutions in various countries around the world, thereby serving intellectual security and strengthening social harmony.

On the other hand, these discussions are particularly important given Rwanda's experience in coexistence and national reconciliation. The Republic of Rwanda, having overcome a difficult period in its history, is now considered an African model for development and coexistence among its diverse religious and ethnic groups. Cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the religious sphere is a strong support for the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Rwanda in consolidating the true principles of Islam, which call for building, development, and respect for others, thus contributing to the stability and prosperity of Rwandan society.

At the international and regional levels, this meeting reflects the Kingdom's keenness to strengthen its relations with African countries, not only in political and economic spheres, but also in cultural and religious ones. These discussions are expected to lead to greater coordination in training imams and preachers, exchanging expertise in organizing Islamic affairs, and benefiting from the Kingdom's pioneering experience in printing and publishing the Holy Quran through the King Fahd Complex, thus enhancing the Kingdom's position as a globally trusted and moderate Islamic authority.
