The Ministry of Commerce supplies 459 million goods to Mecca and the holy sites
Exceptional efforts to secure basic commodities in Mecca
In its ongoing efforts to provide the best possible services to pilgrims, the Saudi Ministry of Commerce announced record-breaking figures in the volume of food supplies. Since the beginning of Dhul-Hijjah, more than 459 million essential goods have been supplied to markets and retail outlets in Mecca and the Holy Sites. This initiative aims to ensure that all pilgrims' needs are met and to provide them with a comfortable and safe environment to perform their rituals with ease.
These strategic goods included a wide range of vital and indispensable products, most notably baked goods, bottled water, dairy products, juices, and soft drinks, in addition to ice blocks, which are of great importance in light of rising temperatures, thus ensuring that the needs of the pilgrims are met around the clock.
Supply details: Accurate figures and statistics
The numbers clearly reflect the scale of the effort; the Ministry of Commerce stated that the amount of bread distributed to retail outlets in the holy sites and Mecca exceeded 60 million loaves. Regarding hydration and providing water to pilgrims, the amount of bottled water distributed reached over 220 million bottles, a figure that reflects the utmost care taken to prevent pilgrims from suffering dehydration or heat exhaustion.
In addition, more than 164 million packages of milk, juices and various soft drinks were provided, in addition to pumping more than 15 million ice blocks, which confirms the integration of the supply chain to cover all the food and daily requirements of the millions of people present in a specific geographical area.
Average daily pumping and strict market monitoring
To ensure the continued availability of goods without interruption, the ministry indicated that the average daily supply has recorded high and carefully considered levels, with more than 10 million loaves of bread, 33 million bottles of water, more than 28 million bottles of milk and juices, in addition to more than two million ice blocks daily.
The role of the relevant authorities is not limited to providing goods; the Ministry has affirmed the continuation of intensive monitoring and oversight of all markets and retail outlets. These inspection tours aim to ensure the availability of essential goods, monitor price stability, and verify the suitability of products for human consumption, thus enhancing the readiness of services provided to pilgrims performing Hajj.
The historical context and strategic dimension of serving the guests of God
Historically, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed serving the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors at the forefront of its priorities since its founding. Managing millions of pilgrims over a few days is considered one of the most complex logistical operations globally. With the development of infrastructure, the supply chain now relies on advanced technologies for demand forecasting and supply chain management to ensure there are no shortages.
These tremendous efforts are directly aligned with the objectives of “Saudi Vision 2030”, specifically the “Guests of God Service Program”, which aims to bring about a qualitative shift in the Hajj and Umrah experience, and to provide high-quality services that befit the status of the Islamic Kingdom and meet the aspirations of pilgrims coming from all parts of the world.
The local and international impact of supply success
Domestically, this massive influx of goods stimulates economic activity, supports national factories, and boosts transportation and logistics companies, creating seasonal jobs and increasing GDP. Regionally and internationally, the Kingdom's ability to efficiently meet the needs of millions of pilgrims simultaneously sends a powerful message of reassurance to the entire Muslim world.
This repeated logistical success reflects a positive and bright image of the organizational and administrative capabilities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and confirms to the whole world that the security, safety and comfort of the guests of God is a trust that the Kingdom fulfills with full competence and professionalism year after year.
