Ministry of Sports statement regarding the power outage at Prince Mohammed bin Fahd Stadium

The Saudi Ministry of Sports issued an official statement clarifying the sudden technical malfunction that affected the Prince Mohammed bin Fahd Sports City Stadium in Dammam, which caused a power outage during the match between Al-Khaleej and Neom, as part of the 23rd round of the Saudi Professional League, which coincided with the "Founding Day" celebrations.

Details of the incident and official action

The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Sports, Adel Al-Zahrani, clarified via his official social media account that the power outage was not due to an internal malfunction at the facility, but rather a power cut from the main supply line to the stadium, which is provided by the Saudi Electricity Company. Al-Zahrani confirmed that emergency teams and relevant authorities handled the situation with high professionalism, restoring power from the main source within just three minutes of the outage.

Technical response and safety procedures

In terms of technical details, the statement indicated that restarting the technical and operational systems, including the stadium's main lighting system (floodlights), took approximately 20 minutes. This timeframe falls within the standard operating procedures adopted to ensure the safety of electrical loads and protect sensitive technical equipment within the facility from any damage that might result from a sudden power surge.

The ministry also stressed that emergency plans were activated immediately after the incident, as the safety systems worked according to the approved design of the facility, which contributed to maintaining the security and safety of the fans and players. No injuries or significant damage were recorded, thanks be to God, which reflects the readiness of the infrastructure to deal with emergency crises.

The importance of readiness in sports infrastructure

This clarification comes at a time when the Saudi Professional League, also known as the "Roshan League," is enjoying unprecedented global viewership, making the efficiency of stadium and sports facility infrastructure a cornerstone of match organization. The Ministry of Sports is deeply committed to implementing the highest standards of quality and safety in all stadiums to ensure the smooth continuation of competitions, in line with the qualitative leap the sports sector in the Kingdom is experiencing.

The Ministry's commitment and future measures

The ministry concluded its statement by affirming its full commitment to applying the highest operational standards, noting the ongoing intensive technical coordination with the electricity provider. This coordination aims to identify the detailed technical reasons that led to the outage at the source and to take all necessary measures to ensure service stability in the future and prevent the recurrence of such incidents, in order to provide an optimal experience for sports fans.
