Mosque maintenance in Saudi Arabia in preparation for Ramadan

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Projects and Maintenance Agency, announced the launch of a comprehensive package of operational and service programs aimed at enhancing the readiness of mosques across the Kingdom, as part of early preparations for the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH. This initiative is intended to ensure a suitable spiritual atmosphere for worshippers during this blessed month.

Record numbers in maintenance operations

Official statistics released by the Ministry revealed that field teams have begun implementing 102 comprehensive maintenance, cleaning, and operational projects, directly targeting 18,691 mosques and prayer halls across the Kingdom. These substantial figures reflect the scale of efforts undertaken to ensure the continuity of services and the efficiency of facilities. The work includes monitoring routine maintenance, addressing urgent technical issues, and intensifying cleaning and sanitization efforts.

General context and government interest

These intensive efforts are an extension of the historical and pioneering role that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia plays in caring for Islamic holy sites and houses of worship. Since its founding, the Kingdom has placed serving the Two Holy Mosques and mosques at the forefront of its priorities, which aligns with the objectives of Vision 2030 that focus on enriching the religious experience for worshippers and pilgrims, and providing a safe and comfortable worship environment characterized by the highest standards of quality and safety.

The importance of preparing for the Ramadan season

This service initiative gains particular importance with the approach of the holy month of Ramadan, which witnesses an unprecedented surge in worshippers at mosques and prayer halls for the obligatory prayers, as well as the Taraweeh and Qiyam prayers. This period necessitates maximum readiness in air conditioning, lighting, sound systems, and carpeting to ensure the capacity to accommodate the increased number of worshippers without any technical obstacles that might affect their focus and comfort.

Developing the service system

The ministry affirmed that these works fall within a structured operational plan implemented in full coordination with its branches in various regions. Through these contracts, the ministry aims to develop its maintenance and operation system according to approved plans that ensure the sustainability of the facilities, thereby enhancing the level of services provided to worshippers and fulfilling aspirations for mosques as beacons of religious and cultural enlightenment.
