The Muslim World League issued a strongly worded official statement condemning the treacherous terrorist attack that targeted a police patrol in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which resulted in a number of casualties among the security forces.
In a statement issued by the General Secretariat of the Muslim World League, His Excellency the Secretary-General, Chairman of the Council of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa , expressed the League's full solidarity with the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in confronting all threats to its security and stability. Al-Issa reiterated the League's firm and principled stance against all forms of violence and terrorism, regardless of their motives or justifications, and offered his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the Pakistani people, praying to God Almighty to grant the deceased His abundant mercy.
Details of the attack and the killing of 5 members
On the ground, security sources confirmed that five Pakistani police officers were killed on Tuesday in an armed attack targeting their vehicle while on routine patrol in the Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the northwest of the country. Local police explained that unidentified gunmen opened heavy fire on the police vehicle, killing all those inside instantly.
Following the incident, security forces completely cordoned off the area and began a large-scale search operation to track down the perpetrators who fled, in an effort to bring them to justice.
The security context in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
This attack comes amid a volatile security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan. Historically, this province has been a hotspot for clashes between security forces and armed groups. Recently, the region has witnessed a significant increase in attacks targeting checkpoints and security patrols, posing a major challenge to Pakistani authorities in their efforts to enforce the rule of law and secure the border areas.
Security reports indicate that targeting policemen is primarily aimed at destabilizing and weakening the state’s grip on those vital areas, which Islamabad is countering with ongoing security and military campaigns to combat the remnants of terrorism.
Official reactions and the importance of solidarity
For his part, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack, stressing in his statements the continuation of the government’s relentless efforts to hold those responsible for this brutal attack accountable and to rid the country of the scourge of terrorism.
The statement issued by the Muslim World League is particularly significant at this time, as it reflects international Islamic support for Pakistan in its fight against extremism. This solidarity underscores that the Muslim world stands united against attempts to spread chaos, emphasizing the sanctity of life and the necessity of maintaining security and social peace in all Muslim countries.
