Nawafeth Initiative: Accurate data for developing education in Saudi Arabia

Launching the Windows Initiative: A strategic step towards data-driven education

The Education and Training Evaluation Commission in Saudi Arabia has launched a pioneering strategic initiative called “Windows of the Education and Training Status Room.” This innovative initiative aims to empower educational leaders to analyze field performance with exceptional accuracy by relying on precise and reliable data, directly contributing to raising the quality of educational outcomes across the Kingdom. This step comes within the framework of the comprehensive digital transformation underway in the Saudi education system to ensure the highest quality standards are met.

The historical context of digital transformation in Saudi education

Historically, the education sector in Saudi Arabia has witnessed rapid developments, transitioning from traditional assessment and monitoring methods to adopting the latest digital technologies. This transformation accelerated significantly with the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, particularly through the Human Capital Development Program. In recent years, the Kingdom has demonstrated its ability to successfully manage educational transformations through advanced digital platforms. Today, the "Nawafith" initiative crowns these efforts by moving from simply providing education to proactively measuring its quality and analyzing its data, thus eliminating individual interpretations and establishing an evidence-based decision-making process.

Details of the initiative and the massive database

During the launch ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Education for General Education, Dr. Saad Al-Harbi, emphasized the necessity of basing educational decisions on accurate data and objective evaluation. In the presence of the President of the Education and Training Evaluation Commission, Dr. Waleed bin Mohammed Al-Saleh, and a number of other leaders, he stressed the importance of utilizing available data and translating it into concrete, practical measures that improve learning outcomes. The Deputy Minister commended the Commission's efforts in developing the educational system, praising the efficient implementation of the national tests (NAFES) and the first cycle of the school evaluation.

For his part, Dr. Waleed Al-Saleh revealed that the initiative represents an advanced stage of the "Case Room," which was launched in early 2025. He explained that the room is based on a massive database exceeding 23 billion data points and more than 3.5 billion digital values. The platform also provides more than 300 interactive dashboards and over 3,000 analytical elements to serve the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and support strategic decision-making.

Importance and expected impact locally and internationally

At the local level, this new digital transformation provides each educational administration with an independent perspective, enabling it to instantly monitor and analyze its performance from its own location. These platforms contribute to the precise identification of educational gaps and the development of improvement plans and educational interventions grounded in real-world data and transparency. Furthermore, the automated updating of indicators ensures proactive planning and efficient spending.

At the regional and international levels, this initiative positions the Kingdom among the leading nations utilizing Big Data in education governance. This rigorous analysis will improve student performance on international assessments and cultivate a globally competitive and prepared Saudi workforce capable of meeting the demands of the future job market and keeping pace with rapid global advancements.
