Cyber awareness for pilgrims: Interactive exhibition at Madinah Airport
The National Cybersecurity Authority announced the launch of the “Interactive Cybersecurity Awareness Exhibition for Pilgrims” at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah. This initiative is part of the cybersecurity enhancement program for this year’s Hajj season, in cooperation with Taiba Airports Company, and aims to raise awareness among pilgrims arriving in the Kingdom and equip them with the necessary knowledge to protect themselves in the digital space.
Context of the initiative and its strategic objectives
This initiative is part of the comprehensive national efforts undertaken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to harness all available resources and provide the best possible services to pilgrims, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which places great emphasis on enhancing the Hajj and Umrah experience. With the significant expansion of digital transformation in services offered to pilgrims, such as the Nusuk platform and e-visas, the urgent need to raise awareness of potential cybersecurity risks has become paramount. The exhibition aims to cultivate a strong cybersecurity culture among pilgrims, protecting them from the growing threats of phishing, financial fraud, and the theft of personal data, which often target large gatherings.
Interactive content and multilingual awareness materials
The exhibition features an innovative, interactive approach designed to capture visitors' attention and effectively deliver awareness messages. It includes a range of materials, publications, and guides specifically tailored for pilgrims, available in multiple languages to reach the widest possible audience of pilgrims from around the world. The content focuses on simplifying cybersecurity concepts, explaining its vital role in mitigating digital risks, highlighting social engineering and phishing techniques, emphasizing the importance of securing applications and data on smart devices, and stressing the need for caution when using public Wi-Fi networks.
The importance and expected impact of the initiative
Domestically, this initiative contributes to enhancing the safety and security of pilgrims, ensuring they can perform their rituals with peace of mind and ease, and reinforces the Kingdom's reputation as a leading nation in managing and organizing Hajj with the highest standards of efficiency and safety. Internationally, raising awareness among millions of pilgrims of various nationalities reflects positively on the Kingdom's efforts to protect its visitors and presents a global model for securing major events cybersecurity. Furthermore, upon returning to their home countries, pilgrims carry this cybersecurity culture with them, indirectly contributing to raising awareness of digital security worldwide. This collaboration between the National Cybersecurity Authority and Taiba Airports Company represents a successful example of integrating efforts between the public and private sectors to achieve high national goals.
