The Meteorology Department warns of strong winds and dust storms in Hail and the Eastern Province

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued an advanced warning today regarding the expected weather conditions in the Hail and Eastern regions, warning of strong winds and surface wind activity, which will lead to dust storms and a significant decrease in horizontal visibility.

Weather details in the Hail region

In detail, the center explained that the Hail region will experience strong winds starting today and continuing until 7:00 PM. Wind speeds are expected to reach between 40 and 49 kilometers per hour, which is sufficient to stir up dust storms that could lead to near-zero visibility on highways and in open areas. The center urged residents and visitors of the region, especially drivers, to exercise extreme caution and adhere to the instructions of the relevant authorities to ensure their safety.

Warnings of dust storms in the Eastern Province

The warning also included the Eastern Province, specifically Hafr Al-Batin Governorate and its surrounding areas, where active winds are expected to stir up dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility to between 3 and 5 kilometers. The center indicated that this weather condition will continue until 7:00 PM today, urging those with respiratory illnesses and allergies to take precautions and avoid going out unless absolutely necessary.

Climate context and the importance of early warnings

These weather conditions are typical of Saudi Arabia's climate, characterized by its vast desert environment, making it susceptible to rapid weather fluctuations, particularly in wind activity and sand and dust storms. These phenomena usually increase during the transitional periods between seasons. The National Center of Meteorology plays a vital role in monitoring these changes and issuing early warnings, contributing to the protection of lives and property and mitigating potential risks to various sectors, including transportation, healthcare, and the daily activities of citizens and residents.

Expected effects and safety guidelines

This weather condition is expected to directly impact traffic on the roads connecting these areas to each other and to the rest of the Kingdom. Therefore, relevant authorities, such as Civil Defense and Highway Patrol, emphasize the importance of monitoring weather alerts, avoiding speeding, and maintaining a safe distance between vehicles. It is also advised to postpone non-essential travel until the weather stabilizes. On the health front, it is recommended to wear protective masks outdoors and keep windows tightly closed to prevent dust from entering buildings.
