Nursing Lens: Postgraduate Studies Prospects for Health Students in the Eastern Province
In a strategic move aimed at empowering and guiding young Saudi professionals toward their future careers, Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University in the Eastern Province inaugurated the “Nursing Lens” forum, organized by the College of Nursing in collaboration with other health colleges at the university. The forum primarily aimed to introduce students to the professional and academic pathways available after graduation, with a focus on postgraduate programs and specialized fields that meet the growing needs of the healthcare sector in Saudi Arabia.
Background and objectives of the forum
This forum is being organized amidst the major transformations taking place in the Saudi healthcare sector, which align with the goals of Vision 2030 and the Health Sector Transformation Program. The Vision aims to build an effective and sustainable healthcare system based on highly qualified national talent. In this context, the importance of the nursing profession emerges as a cornerstone of healthcare, no longer limited to general care but branching out to include specialized fields requiring advanced skills and knowledge. The “Nursing Lens” forum aims to bridge the gap between academic education and the actual demands of the job market by highlighting promising opportunities in Master's and Doctoral programs.
Events and wide participation
The forum, inaugurated by the Dean of the College of Nursing, Dr. Rima Al-Qarni, witnessed broad participation from students of the Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Applied Medical Sciences, and Public Health, in addition to the College of Nursing. The event was organized as an interactive platform comprising 23 informational booths, where 23 speakers—graduate students and specialized healthcare practitioners—shared the essence of their scientific and practical experiences. This platform provided students with a unique opportunity to connect directly with experts and peers who had preceded them in their academic journey, helping them to develop a clear vision of their professional future.
Strategic importance and expected impact
Dr. Rima Al-Qarni explained that the forum represents a "qualitative initiative" that originated from a student idea, reflecting students' awareness of the importance of early planning for their future. The specialized exhibition showcased vital career paths needed by the job market, most notably critical care nursing, obstetrics and gynecology nursing, and advanced pediatric nursing. Guiding students toward these specialized fields not only contributes to raising the quality of healthcare provided to citizens and residents, but also strengthens efforts to localize specialized healthcare professions and reduces reliance on foreign expertise. At the national level, such initiatives contribute to achieving the Kingdom's health security and building a generation of healthcare practitioners capable of keeping pace with the latest global medical advancements and leading the healthcare sector in the future.
The academic support that the initiative received from the university leadership is evidence of the institutional commitment to empowering young people and opening new horizons for them, ensuring that the outputs of university education are aligned with ambitious national aspirations.
