Dhahran Municipality: Planting 111,000 flowers and maintaining 4,000 trees

In its ongoing efforts to enhance municipal services and achieve sustainable development goals, the Dhahran Municipality its field efforts to improve the urban landscape by implementing a comprehensive package of landscaping and maintenance projects. These efforts included planting over 111,000 flowers and rehabilitating vast green spaces, a strategic step aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, raising quality of life , and creating a safe and healthy environment for the city's residents and visitors.

The Mayor of Dhahran, Engineer Faisal Al-Qahtani, revealed the results of the work completed last month, reflecting the municipality's commitment to transforming the city into a green oasis. This included planting 550 trees in carefully selected strategic locations to increase shade and reduce carbon emissions, in addition to planting 111,500 seasonal flowers to add a vibrant aesthetic and cheerful colors to the city's streets and public parks.
Strategic context and alignment with Vision 2030
These on-the-ground initiatives are part of a broader framework aligned with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, specifically the Green Saudi Arabia initiative and the Quality of Life Program. As a global energy hub and home to Saudi Aramco and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran serves as a significant urban model in the Eastern Province. Therefore, increasing green spaces in the city is not merely an aesthetic luxury, but an environmental imperative to address climate challenges, reduce temperatures, and improve air quality in densely populated urban areas.
Expansion of green spaces and precise technical standards
Environmental efforts included planting over 100,200 square meters of green spaces and ground cover, which helps reduce dust and improve air quality. In parallel, regular maintenance and comprehensive rehabilitation work was carried out on 177,000 square meters of existing grass areas to ensure their freshness and sustainability.
The field teams focused heavily on the technical and aesthetic aspects to ensure visual harmony that is pleasing to the eye and promotes the psychological well-being of residents. In this regard, 4,120 trees were pruned and arranged according to precise technical standards, and damaged trees were treated to improve the overall quality of vegetation and enhance the appearance of residential neighborhoods and main streets.

Engineer Al-Qahtani confirmed that these moves stem from the municipality’s established strategy to create a healthy urban environment, where green spaces play a pivotal role in purifying the air, reducing temperatures, and providing attractive natural outlets for recreational and community activities, which positively impacts the public health of the population.
In implementing its operational plans, the municipality relies on scheduled time programs and modern irrigation and maintenance technologies that ensure optimal use of water resources and achieve long-term environmental sustainability for the city’s green spaces, thus ensuring that Dhahran remains an environmentally and human-friendly city.
