Palestinian Foreign Ministry: Silence on Israel's practices is no longer an option

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, in a strongly worded statement, affirmed that the continued international silence on Israeli practices and violations against the Palestinian people is no longer an option, but rather constitutes a political and legal cover that encourages the occupation authorities to persist in committing more crimes and undermining any remaining opportunities to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.
Context of escalation and lack of accountability
This Palestinian stance comes amid escalating events on the ground in the occupied Palestinian territories, where the West Bank and East Jerusalem are witnessing intensified settlement expansion, land confiscation, house demolitions, and daily incursions into cities and refugee camps. Human rights and international reports indicate that these practices are not isolated incidents, but rather part of a systematic policy aimed at altering the demographic and geographic reality on the ground, making the establishment of a geographically contiguous Palestinian state virtually impossible.
Historically, the Palestinian leadership has consistently called upon the international community, particularly the Security Council and the United Nations, to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities in enforcing international law. However, merely issuing statements of condemnation and concern without taking deterrent punitive measures has created a climate of impunity, allowing Israel to act as a state above international law, according to Palestinian diplomacy.
The repercussions of silence on regional stability
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that the continuation of this negative approach by the international community not only threatens Palestinian rights but also undermines the credibility of the entire international system and reinforces double standards. It explained that the absence of a political horizon and the deadlock in negotiations, coupled with the on-the-ground and economic pressure on Palestinians, threatens to ignite a situation that could spiral out of control, jeopardizing security and stability in the region and beyond.
Call for effective international action
The ministry stressed the need to move from words to action, calling on the International Criminal Court to expedite its investigations into potential war crimes and urging influential countries to exert real pressure on the Israeli government to halt its unilateral actions. It affirmed that safeguarding the two-state solution requires immediate and decisive intervention to end the occupation and enable the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination, asserting that history will not forgive those who fail to uphold justice and human rights.
