Penalty for border security violations in Saudi Arabia: a fine of one million riyals and imprisonment
Public security warns: Strict penalties await those who facilitate the entry of border security violators
The Saudi General Directorate of Public Security issued a stern warning to anyone contemplating compromising national security by facilitating the entry of border violators into the Kingdom. These warnings are part of the ongoing efforts by the Saudi Ministry of Interior to maintain security and tighten control over ports and borders, and fall under the comprehensive national campaign to track down and apprehend violators of residency, labor, and border security regulations, known as the "A Nation Without Violators" campaign.
Details of the penalties imposed on violators
Public security has made it unequivocally clear that anyone proven to be involved in facilitating the entry of border security violators into the Kingdom, or transporting them within it, or employing them, or providing them with shelter, or offering them any kind of assistance or service in any way, will be subject to severe and deterrent penalties, including the following:
- Imprisonment: A prison sentence of up to 15 years.
- Financial penalty: A huge financial penalty of up to one million Saudi Riyals.
- Confiscation of the means of transport: Confiscation of the vehicle or means of transport used in committing the crime.
- Confiscation of housing: Confiscation of housing specifically prepared to shelter border security violators or used solely for this purpose. If the confiscated housing belongs to someone else, the owner will be fined up to one million riyals.
Crime classification and its legal dimensions
Security officials emphasized that this crime is not a minor offense, but rather a serious crime warranting arrest, and one that violates honor and integrity. This strict legal classification reflects the gravity of this act to the state and society, as the perpetrator loses his social and legal standing, drastically impacting his future and serving as a deterrent to others.
General context and importance of combating infiltration (local and regional impact)
These strict measures are of paramount importance on several levels. At the local level, border control contributes to protecting the national economy from being drained by undocumented workers and illegal financial transfers, and it also protects society from criminal offenses and social ills that are often associated with infiltrators and violators of regulations, such as drug trafficking, theft, and organized crime.
Regionally, Saudi Arabia, by virtue of its strategic geographic location and leading economic position, is a major destination for waves of illegal immigration. Therefore, tightening border controls and increasing penalties for those who collaborate with infiltrators will enhance the stability of the region as a whole and curb the activities of human trafficking and cross-border smuggling networks.
A call for citizens and residents to cooperate with security authorities
The Ministry of Interior and Public Security consistently urges all citizens and residents to recognize their national and social responsibility and to refrain from harboring or assisting any violators. Security authorities call upon everyone to promptly report any suspected cases or the presence of individuals violating residency, labor, and border security regulations by calling 911 in the Makkah, Riyadh, and Eastern regions, and 999 or 996 in the rest of the Kingdom. The Ministry emphasizes that national security is everyone's responsibility.
