Pilgrims flocked to Mina on the Day of Tarwiyah
On the eighth day of Dhul-Hijjah, pilgrims flocked to Mina to spend the Day of Tarwiyah in a serene and spiritually uplifting atmosphere, amidst a comprehensive operational and service system implemented by various authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to serve the guests of God during the Hajj season. From the early hours of dawn, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims moved to their camps according to well-organized and precise crowd management plans, supported by a wide network of field, security, health, and logistical services. This awe-inspiring scene was characterized by smooth flow and order, with direct oversight from relevant authorities to ensure efficient movement within Mina and provide the utmost comfort for the pilgrims.
General context and historical background of the Day of Tarwiyah
The Day of Tarwiyah marks the first stage of the actual Hajj journey within the holy sites. Historically and religiously, the eighth day of Dhul-Hijjah is called the Day of Tarwiyah because in the past, pilgrims would quench their thirst with water and carry it with them from Mecca to Mina, in preparation for standing on the plains of Arafat the following day, as water was not readily available there at that time. Pilgrims spend their day in Mina, following the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), where they pray Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr of the Day of Arafat, shortening the prayers without combining them, devoting themselves to remembrance, supplication, and contemplation.
The importance of the event and its local and international impact
Domestically, this annual event showcases the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's immense organizational and logistical capabilities, reflecting the success of the "Saudi Vision 2030" programs, particularly the "Guests of God Service Program," which aims to transform the Hajj experience. Mina, known as the "City of White Tents," is one of the world's largest construction projects, featuring state-of-the-art fire-resistant tents equipped with the latest air conditioning and safety systems, reflecting the massive local investment in infrastructure.
On both regional and international levels, the sight of pilgrims arriving from all corners of the earth represents a powerful global message embodying the values of unity, equality, and peace. This massive human gathering, encompassing diverse nationalities and cultures converging in one place and time, garners widespread media and international attention, underscoring the Kingdom's pivotal role in the Islamic world and its exceptional capacity to manage the largest crowds with the highest standards of security and safety.
Full readiness to serve the guests of God
Field reports have noted a significant deployment of guidance and volunteer teams around the camps, pedestrian walkways, and transportation hubs, including the Holy Sites Metro, which facilitates pilgrim movement. In addition, healthcare services have been intensified through hospitals and mobile health centers, and prevention and awareness plans have been activated, contributing to enhanced pilgrim safety and creating a conducive environment for performing the rituals with peace of mind. Relevant authorities continue to implement their operational plans around the clock to ensure the smooth transfer of pilgrims to the plains of Arafat tomorrow to perform the most important rite of Hajj.
