In the context of strengthening fraternal relations and developing the legislative work system among the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Shura Council, Mr. Mohammed bin Dakhel Al-Mutairi, held an official meeting with His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Qatari Shura Council, Dr. Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud, in the Qatari capital, Doha.
These talks come as a key part of the official visit of the Saudi Shura Council delegation, headed by His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Sheikh, to the State of Qatar, which aims to strengthen parliamentary ties and open new horizons for bilateral cooperation.
Developing parliamentary working mechanisms
The meeting included a comprehensive review of several files of mutual interest, with both sides focusing on ways to develop administrative and technical mechanisms to support parliamentary work. They also discussed how to leverage shared expertise in the field of the secretariats of both councils, aiming to enhance performance efficiency and provide the necessary logistical and informational support to members of the legislative bodies to enable them to carry out their duties effectively.
The importance of the visit and its strategic context
This visit is of paramount importance as it comes amidst growing Saudi-Qatari relations, driven by the vision of the leadership of both brotherly nations and the directives of the Saudi-Qatari Coordination Council, which serves as the primary framework for developing bilateral relations across all fields. Parliamentary cooperation is a cornerstone of this integration, with consultative councils and parliaments playing a vital role in enacting legislation that facilitates economic and social agreements between countries.
Coordinating positions in international forums
The importance of these meetings extends beyond domestic or bilateral matters, encompassing the coordination of positions and perspectives in regional and international parliamentary forums. Through these discussions, both sides aim to unify Gulf efforts within international parliamentary unions, thereby strengthening the influence of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and ensuring their voice and issues are more effectively conveyed to the international community.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on the need to continue communication and hold joint workshops between the two General Secretariats, to exchange best practices in the fields of parliamentary technology, research and studies, and parliamentary documentation, in order to serve the higher interests of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples.
