His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, patronized the grand ceremony held this Friday evening by the Jockey Club at the King Abdulaziz Equestrian Field in Riyadh. The ceremony included the presentation of the Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Cup (may God have mercy on him), as part of the horse racing season, which features the Kings' and Princes' Cups and is considered one of the most important events on the Saudi equestrian calendar.
In a thrilling and competitive atmosphere, His Royal Highness the Prince of the Eastern Province presented the coveted trophy to the sons of the late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, following the victory of the champion horse "Michael Schofield" in the Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Cup race, a 1600-meter contest. His Royal Highness Prince Mutaib bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz accepted the trophy amidst great celebration of this sporting achievement.
The importance of the Kings and Princes' Cups in Saudi Arabian equestrianism
The King's and Prince's Cup races hold paramount importance in the Saudi sporting landscape. They are not merely athletic competitions, but rather a testament to a rich history and a tribute to the nation's figures who have contributed so much to the country. These races attract elite horses, trainers, and jockeys, raising the level of competition and enhancing the Kingdom's standing as a global destination for horse racing, particularly given the significant development witnessed by the Jockey Club.
Equestrianism: A historical legacy and ongoing government support
This generous patronage stems from the great attention the wise leadership pays to equestrian sports, which are an integral part of the cultural and civilizational heritage of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Since the era of the founder, King Abdulaziz – may God have mercy on him – horses have enjoyed a special status, and this attention has continued through the kings of the Kingdom, reaching the prosperous era of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince.
The King Abdulaziz Equestrian Field in Janadriyah, which hosted this race, is a global architectural and sporting masterpiece, as it was designed according to the highest international standards for hosting major championships, which contributes to achieving the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 in the sports aspect, enhancing the quality of life, and supporting the sport of fathers and grandfathers to reach the global level.
