Prince Turki Al-Faisal sponsors Al-Faisal University graduation ceremony
His Royal Highness Prince Turki Al-Faisal bin Abdulaziz, Chairman of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Alfaisal University, affirmed that the university represents a distinguished model of education's role in serving humanity and embodies the vision of King Faisal bin Abdulaziz – may God have mercy on him – in building minds and enhancing knowledge. This came during his gracious patronage of the graduation ceremony for a new class of Alfaisal University students in Riyadh, in the presence of a distinguished group of princes, dignitaries, and parents.
Historical context and King Faisal's vision
The historical roots of this vision trace back to the reign of King Faisal, who was known for his profound interest in education as a cornerstone of national progress. This interest was exemplified when, asked about his vision for the Kingdom fifty years from now, he replied that it would be "a beacon of light for humanity." From this perspective, Alfaisal University was founded by the King Faisal Foundation to be a leading academic institution that continues this deep-rooted legacy and contributes to graduating highly qualified individuals capable of making a positive impact on their societies.
Specialized fields that keep pace with the future
The ceremony celebrated the graduation of students from the Colleges of Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and General Studies, as well as graduates of master's programs. In his address, University President Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Al-Hayazaa explained that the university has expanded its academic offerings to include specialized fields that meet contemporary demands, such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and advanced medical sciences. He also noted the launch of 14 specialized programs in the fields of data and artificial intelligence, reflecting the university's commitment to developing qualified national talent to lead the future.
Local impact and support for Vision 2030
Locally, Alfaisal University plays a pivotal role in supporting the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, specifically the Human Capital Development Program. The university not only provides academic education but also focuses on aligning its graduates with the evolving needs of the labor market, localizing knowledge, and supporting innovation and sustainable development across various vital sectors in Saudi Arabia.
International standing and the Study in Saudi Arabia initiative
Regionally and internationally, Alfaisal University has established itself as a global educational destination. Dr. Al-Hayazaa explained that international students comprise more than 35% of the university's total student body, representing over 50 countries. This cultural and academic diversity aligns with the "Study in Saudi Arabia" initiative, reinforces the Kingdom's role as a regional hub for attracting global talent and expertise, and contributes to knowledge transfer and building bridges of human and scientific communication across borders.
Development projects and quality of life program
As part of efforts to enhance the overall university environment, the university president reviewed the ambitious project for new sports facilities, the foundation stone of which was recently laid by the Governor of Riyadh at a cost exceeding 300 million riyals. This project not only serves recreational purposes but also aligns with the Quality of Life Program, one of the Vision 2030 programs, by providing an integrated environment that fosters physical and mental well-being alongside academic excellence.
The ceremony concluded with thanks to the leadership
The ceremony concluded with a speech by the graduates, who expressed their gratitude to the wise leadership and to Prince Turki Al-Faisal for his continued support. The university president also extended his thanks to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman – may God protect them – for their generous support of the education sector. Following this, the graduates took the oath, pledging to God and their nation to dedicate their acquired knowledge and skills to serving their community and country, thus ensuring the continuation of the journey of giving and intellectual enlightenment.
