25 million worshippers at the Prophet's Mosque in Rajab 1447 AH – Official statistics
The Prophet's Mosque in Medina witnessed a massive influx of worshippers and record-breaking numbers during the month of Rajab in 1447 AH. Authorities announced that the total number of worshippers and visitors exceeded 25 million, specifically 25,074,929. These large numbers were accommodated by a comprehensive system of operational and organizational services that successfully managed the crowds and provided a serene and spiritually uplifting atmosphere befitting the sanctity of the place and the significance of the time.
According to official statistics released by the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, the Rawdah Al-Sharifah (the area between the Prophet's grave and his pulpit) – which Muslims describe as a garden from the gardens of Paradise – witnessed the arrival of approximately 1,293,867 worshippers during the same period, in accordance with precise organizational procedures that ensured the smooth flow of entry and exit. Additionally, 2,590,857 visitors had the honor of greeting the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his two companions (may God be pleased with them), in scenes of faith characterized by tranquility and reverence.
Great religious and historical significance
This event derives its significance from the profound place the Prophet's Mosque holds in the hearts of Muslims. It is the second of the two Holy Mosques and one of the three mosques to which Muslims are encouraged to travel. The importance of visiting it is amplified during the month of Rajab, one of the sacred months, and a prelude to the greater season of worship in Sha'ban and Ramadan. Historically, the Prophet's Mosque has remained a beacon of knowledge and worship for centuries, a meeting place for Muslims from all corners of the earth. However, the modern Saudi expansions and advanced logistical services have elevated the mosque's capacity to unprecedented levels globally.
A system of services that keeps pace with the vision of the future
These figures reflect not merely numerical density, but rather highlight the success of the operational plans adopted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to serve pilgrims, plans that align with the goals of Vision 2030, which aims to facilitate the hosting of millions of Umrah pilgrims and visitors annually. These services include exceptional hygiene, sanitization, air conditioning, and the provision of Zamzam water, in addition to crowd management using the latest digital technologies and artificial intelligence to organize appointments at the Prophet's Mosque and prevent overcrowding.
The General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques affirmed its commitment to continuously developing and modernizing the services provided within the Prophet's Mosque and its outer courtyards, and to maintaining operational readiness around the clock. These ongoing efforts aim to ensure the safety and security of visitors, enabling them to perform their religious rites in a secure and tranquil environment, thus reflecting the Kingdom's outstanding efforts in serving Islam and Muslims.
