Al-Qassim Health organizes a value-based healthcare workshop

In a strategic move aimed at keeping pace with the radical transformations in the healthcare sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Qassim Health Cluster , represented by its Academic Affairs and Training Department, organized a specialized workshop entitled “Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC).” The event was held under the patronage and in the presence of the CEO of the Qassim Health Cluster, Dr. Musa Al-Harbi, and with the participation of a select group of the cluster’s administrative and medical leaders, reflecting the senior management’s commitment to adopting the latest global practices.
Promoting modern healthcare concepts
The workshop primarily aimed to solidify modern concepts of value-based healthcare, a model considered the cornerstone of the future of medical services. Discussions focused on the necessity of shifting from the traditional model, which relies on the volume of services provided (the number of procedures), to a model that prioritizes achieving the best tangible health outcomes for the patient relative to the financial cost. Practical mechanisms for implementing the Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC) model within the Qassim region's healthcare system were also reviewed to ensure the provision of integrated and effective care.
The context of health transformation and Vision 2030
This workshop gains particular importance when placed within its national context, as it aligns perfectly with the objectives of the Health Sector Transformation Program , one of the programs under the Kingdom's Vision 2030. Through this transformation, the Kingdom seeks to restructure the health sector into a comprehensive, efficient, and integrated healthcare system. Adopting "value-based care" is a fundamental pillar of this transformation, aiming to promote public health, prevent disease, and improve access to healthcare services, while ensuring financial sustainability and the efficiency of government spending.
The importance of the event and its expected impact
The workshop addressed vital themes related to the importance of linking the quality of healthcare outcomes to the patient experience and improving the efficiency of resource utilization. The role of healthcare leaders is highlighted, extending beyond management to supporting institutional transformation and leading cultural change within healthcare facilities. Training leaders in these concepts directly contributes to:
- Improving performance: by making decisions based on data and actual patient outcomes.
- Financial sustainability: by reducing waste and directing resources towards the most effective interventions.
- Improving the patient experience: by placing the patient at the heart of the treatment process and focusing on what matters to their health and quality of life.
This workshop is part of a comprehensive program matrix implemented by the Qassim Health Cluster to build capacity, develop leadership competencies, and promote a culture of continuous improvement, which confirms the cluster’s endeavor to be a leading model in applying modern care models in the Kingdom.
