The Technical College in Qatif organizes a workshop on mathematics in our lives
Introduction to the Mathematics in Our Lives Workshop
The General Studies Department at the Qatif Technical College, in cooperation with the Activities Unit, organized a distinguished training workshop entitled “Mathematics in Our Daily Lives.” The event saw the participation of 50 trainees and was presented by the esteemed trainer Yasser Al-Bu Saleh, with the aim of highlighting the crucial importance of mathematics and its numerous applications that touch upon the details of our daily and professional lives.
Historical context: Contributions of Muslim scholars to mathematics
This workshop takes place within a historical and scientific context spanning centuries, as the instructor reviewed the contributions of prominent Muslim scholars who laid the foundations for modern mathematical sciences. Among the most notable of these was Al-Khwarizmi, considered the founder of algebra and the inventor of the algorithms upon which all programming languages, computer science, and artificial intelligence are built today. The workshop also touched upon the contributions of Ibn al-Haytham, who linked mathematics and optics, demonstrating that mathematics has never been an abstract science, but rather a vital tool for understanding the universe and developing technology throughout the ages.
The event's impact locally and regionally: alignment with Saudi Vision 2030
At the local and regional levels, such training workshops are of paramount importance as they align with the objectives of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which places a strong emphasis on developing education and supporting the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Equipping Saudi youth with analytical and logical skills is a fundamental pillar for building a robust, globally competitive knowledge-based economy capable of meeting the evolving needs of the labor market.
The importance of mathematics in the modern era and its practical applications
During the workshop, the practical applications of mathematics in vital fields such as economics were highlighted, where it is used to analyze financial data and predict market trends; in engineering to design safe and sustainable structures; and in technology to develop software and protect information security. Practical examples were presented to demonstrate how mathematics can be the key to solving complex everyday problems.
Efforts of the Technical College in Qatif in developing trainees
For his part, the Head of the General Studies Department, Issa Al-Mohammad Ali, emphasized the pivotal role of mathematics in developing trainees' analytical and logical skills, noting the department's commitment to raising awareness of the importance of this science in practical life. Similarly, the Head of the Activities Unit, Jawad Al-Muhaysin, explained that this workshop is part of a series of ongoing efforts to organize educational and training events that contribute to honing trainees' skills and professionally preparing them for the job market.
The event concluded with a speech by the Dean of the College, Engineer Hafiz Al-Ghamdi, who expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts made in organizing this successful workshop. Al-Ghamdi emphasized that mathematics is a cornerstone in building and developing society, stressing the college's continued and unwavering support for all extracurricular activities that enhance trainees' skills and open up broad horizons for a bright professional future.
