Qatif is increasing its green spaces: 185 parks and promising projects planned for 2026

The Qatif Governorate Municipality continues its tireless efforts to reshape the urban and environmental landscape of the Eastern Province, achieving significant progress in increasing green spaces. The municipality recently announced that the total area of green spaces has reached a record 1.7 million square meters , strategically distributed across 185 public parks and three major waterfront areas. These steps are an integral part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at improving the quality of life for residents and achieving the objectives of the "Saudi Green Initiative," stemming from the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
Plan 2026: Enhancing Vegetation Cover
In the context of future plans, Engineer Saleh Al-Qarni, Mayor of Qatif Governorate, revealed the outlines of the ambitious plan for 2026. This plan aims to plant more than 10,000 trees and 40,000 shrubs along the main thoroughfares of the governorate and its affiliated cities. The goal is not limited to aesthetics alone, but extends to profound environmental dimensions, including improving air quality, reducing temperatures, and combating desertification, thus contributing to a more sustainable urban environment in the governorate.
National context and strategic importance
These projects gain their importance from reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's national vision of "humanizing cities." Increasing per capita green space is no longer a luxury, but a pressing necessity for promoting public and mental health within the community. These parks serve as natural havens that contribute to strengthening social bonds and providing a safe environment for families and children, positively impacting quality of life indicators across the Eastern Province as a whole.
Development of garden and waterfront projects
Engineer Al-Qarni confirmed that the municipality has made significant progress in implementing the new park projects, which cover a total area of 25,710 square meters, with a completion rate of 80%. The design of these parks incorporates pedestrian walkways exceeding 20,000 meters in length to encourage residents to engage in walking and adopt healthy lifestyles.
Regarding the waterfronts, considered the lifeblood of the province, the municipality has completed the installation of 15 modern amusement rides in Qatif, Saihat, and Tarout. This upgrade aims to transform the waterfronts into integrated tourist and recreational centers, capable of accommodating visitors and tourists and providing a unique entertainment experience that harmonizes with the coastal environment.
Rehabilitation and Sustainability
The development process doesn't stop at new projects; it extends to intensive programs for rehabilitating and maintaining existing parks. These ongoing efforts aim to ensure the sustainability of vegetation and create a healthy environment that keeps pace with the rapid urban growth witnessed in Qatif Governorate, making it a model to be emulated in green urban planning.
