Rainfall amounts in Saudi Arabia: Mecca leads with 133 mm, and details for 9 regions
Over the past 24 hours, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has experienced widespread rainfall across nine administrative regions, as revealed in the daily report issued by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, which details the amounts of rainfall recorded by the National Hydrological and Climate Monitoring Network.
Mecca records the highest rates
The Makkah region topped the list of areas with the heaviest rainfall, with King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah recording a record 133.2 mm, a high rate reflecting the intensity of the weather system that affected the city. High rainfall was also recorded in various Jeddah neighborhoods, with Al-Basateen recording 84.4 mm, King Abdulaziz International Airport 72.2 mm, and Al-Rabwa 50.2 mm, prompting authorities to mobilize to address the resulting water accumulation.
Hydrological and environmental importance of rainfall
These rains are of paramount importance, extending far beyond the immediate event. They directly contribute to replenishing the Kingdom's groundwater reserves and serve as a vital source of water for dams across the country. The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, through 101 advanced monitoring stations, analyzes this data with high precision, aiding in water resource management and agricultural planning. Furthermore, these rains play a crucial role in revitalizing vegetation and natural pastures, particularly as they have covered vast grazing areas in the north and central regions.
Rainfall details in the northern and central regions
In the northern regions, the Northern Borders region recorded significant rainfall, reaching 52.9 mm at Rafha Airport and 42.2 mm at Arar Airport. In the Hail region, Al-Shanan recorded 22.9 mm and Al-Rawdah 18.8 mm. In the Tabuk region, Al-Fara'ah in Al-Wajh recorded 16.8 mm, promising a good spring season for these areas, which rely heavily on seasonal rains to develop their pastures.
Eastern Province and other regions
The Eastern Province also experienced rainfall, with the airbase in Hafr al-Batin recording 6.4 mm and Hafr al-Batin city recording 5.1 mm. In the Qassim region, Al-Muthnib city recorded 11.5 mm and Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Airport recorded 10.5 mm. Finally, the Al-Jawf region recorded scattered amounts of 2.0 mm in Ain al-Hawas in Qurayyat.
This report reflects the geographical comprehensiveness of the rainfall event that covered vast areas of the Kingdom, which enhances hopes for a promising agricultural and pastoral season, while calls continue to be made to exercise caution during rainfall and the flow of valleys.
