Rare heart surgery saves a 70-year-old at King Saud Medical City

In an exceptional medical achievement reflecting the rapid advancements in the healthcare sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a specialized surgical team at King Saud Medical City, led by consultant cardiac surgeon Dr. Nasser Al-Juraid, successfully saved the life of a patient in his seventies. This was accomplished through a rare and complex heart surgery involving ventricular septal defect repair and coronary artery bypass grafting, following a severe heart attack that nearly claimed the patient's life.

Serious complications and delicate surgical intervention

Severe heart attacks are among the most dangerous medical emergencies, and in rare cases, they can lead to catastrophic complications such as myocardial rupture. The medical team treating the patient in his seventies revealed that the severe heart attack he suffered resulted in a significant tear in the septum between the right and left ventricles, creating a large hole measuring 2.5 x 2.5 square centimeters. This type of rupture is medically and internationally classified as one of the most serious complications requiring immediate and highly precise surgical intervention, as mortality rates are extremely high in such cases if timely surgical intervention is not performed to save the patient.

A record recovery after complex surgery

A delicate surgical procedure, performed for the first time in the city at the Heart Health Center, ended the patient's suffering from a severe left ventricular myocardial infarction and dilation. The medical staff explained that the surgery was a complete success thanks to God, the team's expertise, and the availability of state-of-the-art technology. The patient showed a positive and rapid response to treatment, enabling him to recover in record time. The 70-year-old patient was discharged from the hospital in good health just six days after the delicate procedure, underscoring the exceptional quality of healthcare he received.

A rich history and a leading regional position

Historically, King Saud Medical City is considered one of the oldest and largest medical institutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, having been established in 1956. Since its inception, the city has played a pivotal role in providing advanced healthcare and continues to achieve pioneering medical milestones, placing it among the leading medical centers regionally and internationally, making it a trusted destination for dealing with the most complex and rare medical cases.

Achieving the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030

The Medical City administration affirmed that these successive successes solidify its position as a leading center for specialized medical care, fulfilling the aspirations of the wise government to enhance the quality of life. This achievement reflects an unwavering commitment to providing healthcare services that meet the highest international standards and directly translates the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 in the health sector. Through its healthcare transformation program, the Vision aims to facilitate access to healthcare services and improve their quality and efficiency, thus ensuring the provision of comprehensive and sustainable healthcare for both citizens and residents.
