The Miqat of Yalamlam and Al-Juhfah are fully prepared to receive pilgrims
Early preparations to welcome the pilgrims
Every year, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia prepares to welcome millions of Muslims from around the world for the Hajj pilgrimage. In this context, the Royal Commission for Mecca and the Holy Sites, in coordination with relevant authorities, announced the completion of preparations at the Yalamlam and Al-Juhfah Miqats (designated points for entering the state of Ihram) to receive pilgrims for the current Hajj season. This strategic step coincides with the increasing influx of pilgrims arriving via land, air, and sea ports, and is part of comprehensive field plans aimed at enhancing the quality of services and improving operational readiness.
The historical and religious significance of the Yalamlam and Al-Juhfah miqats
The designated Miqat points hold immense importance in Islamic law, as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) established them as starting points that pilgrims performing Hajj or Umrah must not cross without entering the state of Ihram. The Miqat of Yalamlam, located in Al-Lith Governorate, is the primary Miqat for pilgrims from Yemen and southern Saudi Arabia, representing a historically significant and vital crossing point. The Miqat of Al-Juhfah, located in Rabigh Governorate, is designated for pilgrims from the Levant, Egypt, and North Africa. This historical significance makes the development of these Miqats an urgent necessity to serve the increasing number of pilgrims annually, reflecting the prominent regional and international impact of the Kingdom's efforts in facilitating the Hajj pilgrimage for Muslims worldwide.
Developing infrastructure and operational services
The preparations overseen by the Royal Commission included comprehensive development and maintenance work on the facilities and services at both Miqat locations. Emphasis was placed on preparing internal pathways, external courtyards, and rest areas to ensure smooth movement. In addition, cleaning services, regular maintenance, and air conditioning systems were enhanced, guaranteeing a comfortable and healthy environment for pilgrims from the moment they arrive at the Miqat locations, enabling them to begin their rituals with ease.
Huge capacity and regional influence
Operationally, the Yalamlam Miqat boasts a massive capacity of over 55,000 visitors at a time, enabling it to accommodate the large influx of pilgrims arriving from southern Saudi Arabia and Yemen. In contrast, the Al-Juhfah Miqat has a capacity of over 21,000 visitors, making it a strategic Ihram point serving pilgrims from the Levant, Egypt, and North Africa. This well-planned distribution of capacity helps alleviate pressure and streamline procedures, positively impacting the comfort of pilgrims both regionally and internationally.
Improving the efficiency of the spatial and health guidance system
The efforts were not limited to infrastructure alone; the Authority, in cooperation with the operating entities, also enhanced the readiness of prayer areas, restrooms, and ablution facilities. The presence of field operations teams and volunteer staff was intensified to provide continuous support. To ensure the safety of pilgrims, ambulance and health services were made available around the clock. Furthermore, the efficiency of the spatial guidance and awareness system was improved, offering information in multiple languages to overcome language barriers and provide necessary guidance to pilgrims of diverse nationalities and cultures.
Enhancing the Hajj experience in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030
These tremendous and ongoing efforts are part of the Royal Commission for Makkah and the Holy Sites' plans to harness all available technological and human resources to serve the pilgrims. These steps are fully aligned with the objectives of the "Serving the Guests of God" program, one of the most important programs of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to bring about a qualitative leap in the Hajj and Umrah experience and improve the quality of services provided at various locations related to the Hajj journey, ensuring that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia remains the leading and safest destination for millions of Muslims worldwide.
