14.8 million Umrahs in Rajab: A record statistic and facilities for the pilgrims

In an achievement that reflects the enormous development in the system of serving the guests of God, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, in cooperation with the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, announced new record numbers related to the total number of times Umrah was performed during the past month of Rajab, as the number exceeded the (14.8) million mark for pilgrims from inside and outside the Kingdom.

Official statistics issued by the two entities revealed that this huge number reflects a remarkable increase in the pace of performing the rituals, which is a direct result of the efficiency of the operational plans and the integrated services system that the Kingdom has harnessed to serve the visitors of the Two Holy Mosques, which confirms the high readiness to receive the increasing numbers.

Statistics and international visitors

Detailed data revealed that the number of Umrah pilgrims arriving from outside the Kingdom during the month of Rajab alone exceeded two million, coming from various Islamic and international countries. This significant influx confirms the success of the recently developed digital facilities and logistical services, which included streamlined visa procedures and a wider range of arrival options, thus contributing to the smooth and peaceful performance of the rituals.

Vision 2030 and the future of serving pilgrims

This surge in Umrah pilgrims cannot be separated from the broader context of Saudi Vision 2030, which prioritizes serving the guests of God. The Vision aims to attract 30 million Umrah pilgrims annually by 2030 through projects such as the expansion of the Two Holy Mosques, the development of infrastructure in Mecca and Medina, and improvements to the transportation network, including the Haramain High-Speed Railway connecting the two holy cities.

Digital transformation and the "Nusk" platform

Technology played a pivotal role in accommodating these millions of pilgrims, with digital platforms like "Nusk" contributing to the efficient and intelligent organization of bookings and crowd management. These systems effectively distribute crowd density in the circumambulation area (Mataf), the Sa'i area, and the Prophet's Mosque (Rawdah), ensuring smooth movement and maintaining the safety of pilgrims. This was clearly demonstrated by the ability to handle nearly 15 million Umrah pilgrimages in a single month without any recorded overcrowding.

A positive indicator for the Ramadan season

The month of Rajab serves as a true test and a prelude to the annual peak season of Ramadan. The success of the relevant authorities in managing these massive numbers during Rajab indicates thorough readiness and early preparations for Ramadan, which typically sees a significantly higher influx of pilgrims. The Ministry and the General Authority for Hajj and Umrah continue to implement joint initiatives to enhance the quality of services provided within the Two Holy Mosques and at various points along the pilgrim's journey, ensuring a comprehensive and accessible spiritual experience.
