Red Crescent: Ramadan volunteering opens in Madinah 1447
The Saudi Red Crescent Authority has announced the opening of registration for those wishing to join its volunteer programs during the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH in Madinah. This strategic step comes as part of the Authority's early preparations to enhance emergency medical services and strengthen the volunteer work system, coinciding with the expected influx of millions of pilgrims and visitors to the Prophet's Mosque during the holy month.
Volunteer pathways and required specializations
The authority revealed details of the volunteer opportunities that were designed to cover all field needs, as they were divided into two main tracks to ensure operational efficiency:
- The ambulance track: It aims to attract qualified medical personnel and health practitioners to participate directly with ambulance teams, and to provide emergency medical care to pilgrims and visitors in the courtyards of the Holy Mosque and the surrounding areas.
- The logistical track: It focuses on organizational and operational aspects, where volunteers provide support to field teams, facilitate the movement of ambulances, and organize the flow of cases, which contributes to a faster response to reports.
The importance of volunteering in the Kingdom's Vision 2030
This announcement is particularly significant as it directly aligns with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to reach one million volunteers annually in the non-profit sector. Volunteering to serve pilgrims is considered one of the noblest forms of humanitarian work, one that the wise leadership prioritizes. Volunteers in the "Serving the Pilgrims" program contribute to showcasing the Kingdom's positive image and the generosity of its youth, while providing a safe and accessible spiritual experience for visitors.
Field challenges and the role of volunteers
During Ramadan, Medina experiences a massive influx of people, especially during Iftar (breaking the fast), Taraweeh prayers, and Qiyam (night prayers), placing significant pressure on medical and ambulance services. This is where the vital role of volunteers becomes crucial, providing a significant boost to the operational capacity of the Red Crescent. Their extensive presence at critical locations helps reduce response times to emergencies and provides immediate first aid, which can be life-saving before the arrival of advanced medical teams.
Registration dates and procedures
The authority clarified that registration will be available through the official "Volunteer Platform," where specific codes have been assigned to each volunteer opportunity to facilitate the selection process based on experience and qualifications. The application period will begin on January 6, 2026, and continue until January 29, 2026. The authority invited all eligible citizens and residents to seize this opportunity to participate in the reward and serve the visitors of the Prophet's City (peace and blessings be upon him), emphasizing that volunteer work is a fundamental pillar of sustainable community development.
