The spiritual and organizational importance of seclusion

Itikaf (seclusion in the mosque) during the last ten days of Ramadan is a confirmed Sunnah (Prophetic tradition) observed by Muslims worldwide. During this time, those observing Itikaf dedicate themselves to worship, remembrance of God, and recitation of the Quran, away from worldly distractions, in search of Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Decree). Given the millions of pilgrims who visit the Two Holy Mosques, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia pays close attention to organizing this ritual by utilizing modern technology to ensure the safety and comfort of those observing Itikaf. Designated areas have been allocated with all necessary services, reflecting the significant advancements in the services provided to visitors of the Two Holy Mosques.

Actual period of seclusion

The authority clarified that the actual period for i'tikaf (seclusion in the mosque) will begin with the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, specifically from the 20th of Ramadan 1447 AH, and will continue until the end of the month on the 30th of Ramadan 1447 AH. This specific period aims to enable those observing i'tikaf to make the most of these blessed times in a fully conducive spiritual atmosphere.

Steps to apply via the online platform

In order to make things easier for applicants, the authority has defined a simplified and transparent electronic registration mechanism that includes the following steps:

  • Accessing the site: Visit the official website dedicated to services for pilgrims to the Two Holy Mosques.
  • Login: Users can log in directly or create a new account, with the option of quick and secure access via the “National Unified Access” portal (Nafath) available for citizens and residents.
  • Choosing the location: Determining the desired place for seclusion, whether in the corridors of the Grand Mosque in Mecca or the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, according to the available spaces.
  • Agreement to the terms: Review and agree to the regulatory controls and conditions to ensure compliance with the instructions.

Sorting applications and confirming acceptance

After applications are submitted, all data undergoes a thorough review by the relevant authorities to ensure that the applicants meet the requirements and that their applications align with the allocated capacity of the Two Holy Mosques. Those who are ultimately accepted will be notified via SMS to their registered mobile phones, confirming their Itikaf permit and providing the necessary entry instructions.
