The Roadside Tent Initiative for Hajj Pilgrims 1447 AH: Comfort and Safety for the Guests of God
Launch of the Roadside Tent initiative during the Hajj season of 1447 AH
As part of ongoing efforts to provide the best services to pilgrims performing Hajj, the General Authority for Roads in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has launched the second season of its “Roadside Tent” initiative. This strategic initiative is located on the vital Hijrah Road connecting Makkah and Madinah, and its primary aim is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for pilgrims during their journey between the holy sites, reflecting the wise leadership’s commitment to facilitating the performance of Hajj rituals.
Historical background of the Kingdom's efforts in serving pilgrims
Throughout history, since the founding of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, serving the pilgrims has been a top priority and a source of national pride. In the past, the Hajj journey was fraught with dangers and difficulties due to the harsh terrain and climatic conditions. However, with continuous development and successive development plans, Hajj routes have been transformed into modern and sophisticated networks. The “Tent on the Road” initiative is a natural extension of this historical legacy, combining authentic Arabian hospitality with the latest logistical technologies to ensure the comfort of pilgrims.
Details of services offered at the roadside tent
The General Authority for Roads explained that the initiative aims to radically improve the Hajj and Umrah experience. This is achieved by establishing a fully air-conditioned tent equipped with all the amenities travelers need. Services include providing snacks and cold drinks in partnership with SASCO, which is crucial for preventing heat exhaustion during the Hajj season, which coincides with the summer months. In addition, the tent offers educational and informational materials related to traffic safety instructions to ensure pilgrims reach their destinations safely.
Strategic importance and expected impact
This initiative will have a wide-ranging positive impact at the local, regional, and international levels. Locally, it will contribute to increased operational efficiency and a reduction in traffic accidents. Internationally, it will enhance the Kingdom's positive image as a leading nation in crowd management and the provision of advanced infrastructure. This step aligns with the "Guests of God Service Program," one of the key programs of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to transform the Hajj and Umrah experience.
Road Quality Index and Vision 2030 Targets
Through this initiative, the Authority reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to achieving the objectives of the Roads Sector Program. The Kingdom aspires to reach sixth place globally in the Road Quality Index by 2030 and reduce the road fatality rate to less than 5 deaths per 100,000 people. It also seeks to ensure the road network meets traffic safety standards according to the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) classification and to increase its capacity. These ambitious efforts build upon the Kingdom's current leading position globally in the Road Network Connectivity Index, which supports smooth traffic flow and ensures safe and comfortable travel for pilgrims during each Hajj season.
