Roads Authority: More than 2.79 million vehicles crossed into the Grand Mosque in Mecca during Ramadan

The General Authority for Roads announced that more than 2.79 million vehicles traveled on the roads leading to the Grand Mosque in Mecca during the period from the 1st to the 28th of Ramadan 1447 AH.
This comes as part of its preparations and the readiness of its operational plans and its specialized technical staff to serve the pilgrims during the blessed month, and to contribute to providing safe and smooth access for Umrah pilgrims and worshippers, thus enhancing the experience of the pilgrims and contributing to achieving the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 of reaching 30 million Umrah pilgrims by 2030.

Average daily movement

The Roads Authority explained that the average daily traffic during this period reached approximately 106,000 vehicles, while Thursday, the 16th of Ramadan, recorded the highest daily traffic rate at approximately 126,000 vehicles. The Authority attributed the smooth traffic flow to early preparations that included surveying the road network in the Makkah and Madinah regions and the roads leading to the Two Holy Mosques, which extend for more than 16,000 kilometers. These preparations
also included implementing the highest traffic safety standards, maintaining roads with the latest technologies, and continuous monitoring to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of road users.
The Authority affirmed its continued efforts to develop and improve the road network to meet the needs of visitors and pilgrims and to ensure the provision of safe and efficient traffic services throughout the year.
This comes in fulfillment of the objectives of the Roads Sector Program, which include achieving sixth place globally in the Road Quality Index, reducing the road fatality rate to less than 5 deaths per 100,000 people, covering the network with traffic safety factors according to the International Road Assessment Program (iRAP) classification, and maintaining advanced levels of network capacity.
