Results of the Safe and Excellent Roads Campaign: 5,214 observations recorded on its first day

The General Authority for Roads in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the results of the first day of the sixth edition of the “Distinguished and Safe Roads” campaign, launched by His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Engineer Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser. The intensive field efforts resulted in the identification of 5,214 diverse observations on road networks outside urban areas, reflecting the comprehensiveness of the survey and the seriousness of the ongoing work to improve safety and maintenance standards.
The importance of the campaign and its strategic context
This campaign, now in its sixth year, is part of a comprehensive national strategy aimed at enhancing the quality of infrastructure in the Kingdom, which boasts one of the world’s largest road networks. The “Safe and Excellent Roads” campaign is particularly important in light of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 objectives, which focus on establishing the Kingdom as a global logistics hub connecting three continents. Road safety and quality are fundamental to achieving this goal, in addition to their vital role in improving the quality of life for citizens and residents and reducing traffic accident rates.
Details of the field survey results
Official statistics revealed that the teams managed to survey 28% of the targeted road network on the first day alone. The observations recorded ranged from maintenance needs and safety concerns to visual pollution. Notably, the community's engagement with the campaign was strong, with 353 comments received through the 938 call center, demonstrating road users' awareness of the importance of participating in improving public services.
Integration of governmental and community efforts
This edition of the campaign is distinguished by its broad participation and integration across various sectors, with over 620 members distributed across 61 field teams. These teams include representatives from the transportation and logistics sector, personnel from the Special Forces for Road Security, and representatives from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to ensure accurate technical monitoring. The campaign also features active participation from university students, which enhances youth engagement in national field work and their acquisition of practical experience.
Geographical distribution of observations
The data showed variations in the number of observations based on the network size in each region, and the most notable figures were as follows:
- Riyadh region: topped the list with 1154 observations.
- Al-Qassim region: 930 observations were recorded.
- Makkah Region: 610 observations were recorded.
- Medina: 534 observations were recorded.
- Eastern Region: 362 observations were recorded there.
- The remaining regions: The numbers were distributed between Jazan (292), Tabuk (286), Asir (259), Al-Jawf (258), Hail (192), Al-Baha (156), Najran (106), and the Northern Borders (75).
Call for community participation
The Public Roads Authority reiterated its call to all citizens and residents to be partners in success by reporting any observations or visual distortions on the roads through the “938” application or by contacting the reporting center. The Authority affirmed that its specialized teams are ready to respond immediately to reports to ensure a safe and comfortable travel experience for everyone, in line with its commitment to providing infrastructure that meets international standards.
