Weather in Mecca and Al-Jumum: Meteorology warns of dust and winds that will impair visibility

The National Center for Meteorology, in its daily weather report for Friday, issued an important alert for residents and visitors of Mecca and Al-Jumum Governorate, warning of unstable weather conditions characterized by strong surface winds and dust storms. The center explained in its statement that these conditions will significantly reduce horizontal visibility, with visibility expected to range between 1 and 3 kilometers, necessitating caution from citizens and residents in those areas.
The report issued by the center indicated that this weather condition, which will continue - God willing - until seven o'clock this evening, is within the usual weather fluctuations at such times, but its severity may directly affect daily activities and transportation.
Weather effects on public health and traffic safety
These warnings are particularly important given the region's geography and heavy traffic. From a health perspective, those with chronic respiratory conditions, such as asthma and chest allergies, are advised to avoid direct exposure to dusty conditions, as the fine dust particles can irritate the respiratory system and exacerbate symptoms. Health authorities typically emphasize the importance of staying indoors as much as possible and wearing face masks when going out is unavoidable.
Regarding traffic safety, horizontal visibility dropping below 3 kilometers poses a challenge for drivers, especially on highways connecting Mecca to neighboring provinces, such as the Haramain Expressway and the Mecca-Jeddah Expressway. Security and traffic authorities urge drivers to exercise extreme caution, maintain adequate distances between vehicles, use hazard lights when necessary, and adhere to speed limits to avoid accidents that may result from poor visibility.
The role of the National Center for Meteorology and Modern Technologies
This alert comes as part of the National Center of Meteorology's ongoing efforts to monitor weather conditions and protect lives and property, utilizing the latest technologies in weather monitoring and satellite technology. These proactive alerts play a crucial role in enhancing the preparedness of service and security agencies, such as Civil Defense and the Red Crescent, to respond to any emergencies that may arise from severe weather.
The Holy City and Al-Jumum Governorate are among the areas that are periodically affected by active winds that stir up dust, due to their topographical nature and geographical location, which makes following official weather bulletins essential to ensure everyone’s safety.
