900,000 pilgrims sign contracts with the Hajj sacrificial offering project for the Hajj season
As part of ongoing efforts to serve pilgrims, Engineer Siraj Al-Filali revealed exceptional developments in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's project for utilizing sacrificial animals during the current Hajj season. This pioneering project is one of the most prominent government initiatives providing direct and vital services to pilgrims, playing a pivotal role in implementing the rituals of sacrifice according to the strictest Sharia, health, and veterinary regulations, thus ensuring the safety of procedures and the smooth and easy fulfillment of the ritual's objectives.
Increased demand: 900,000 pilgrims sign up for Hajj
Engineer Al-Filali explained that the project continues to receive applications from pilgrims through its online portal and official channels for providing sacrificial animal services. Statistics have recorded record numbers, with the number of pilgrims who have contracted to perform the rituals approaching 900,000. This significant figure comes as demand continues to rise with the approach of Eid al-Adha, reflecting the great confidence that pilgrims place in this pioneering national project.
Historical context: From resource waste to Islamic solidarity
Historically, pilgrims faced significant difficulties in managing sacrificial meat, leading to substantial waste and environmental and health challenges in the holy sites. In response, the Kingdom's Project for the Utilization of Hajj Sacrifices was established in 1983 (1403 AH), with its management entrusted to the Islamic Development Bank. This initiative marked a turning point in the history of Hajj, transforming the challenge of meat disposal into a valuable opportunity for social solidarity and becoming a global model for resource management and distribution to those in need.
Advanced operating system and modern technologies
To ensure the efficient operation of the project, seven large operational facilities operate at full capacity only during Eid al-Adha and the days of Tashreeq. These facilities are equipped with the latest operational technologies to accommodate the millions of pilgrims and the limited time available for performing the rituals. They are managed by a comprehensive workforce of approximately 20,000 individuals, whose roles include laborers, supervisors, administrators, and security and medical personnel, all working to guarantee that the sacrifices are performed within the prescribed time.
Furthermore, the project boasts an advanced refrigeration and freezing system, along with state-of-the-art technologies for cutting, packaging, and packing meat. These rigorous procedures ensure optimal meat preservation and utilization, fulfilling the project's ultimate goal of delivering meat fit for human consumption to those who need it.
Local and international impact: A humanitarian message that transcends borders
The importance of the Hajj and Udhiyah (sacrifice) project extends far beyond local boundaries, encompassing a wide-ranging regional and international impact. Locally, the project contributes to protecting the environment of Mecca and the Holy Sites from pollution and provides thousands of seasonal job opportunities. Internationally, the project ships and distributes millions of sacrificial animals annually to those in need in more than 27 Arab and Islamic countries, thus strengthening the values of solidarity and mutual support among the Muslim community and alleviating the suffering of the poor and needy worldwide.
Digital notifications to facilitate the "dissolution" of the Hajj rituals for pilgrims
Given that the performance of the sacrificial offerings is a crucial step in the pilgrim's release from the state of ihram and the completion of the remaining rituals, the project has given considerable attention to the technological aspect. Al-Filali added that the project has developed several methods to notify pilgrims immediately after the ritual is performed, most notably sending text messages (SMS) directly to their mobile phones, whether via local or international numbers.
These messages include detailed information such as the pilgrim's voucher or coupon number, along with the date and time of the transaction. This technological step provides pilgrims with complete peace of mind, enabling them to gradually exit the state of ihram and complete their Hajj rituals with ease, reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to utilizing technology to serve the guests of God.
