Al Jaber: The Kingdom's sponsorship of the Southern Issue Conference is the beginning of a solution

The Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Yemen and Supervisor of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber, affirmed that the generous support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Southern Issue Conference held in Riyadh stems from its tireless efforts to unify the Yemeni ranks and forge a common vision. In his remarks via the "X" platform, the Ambassador explained that this diplomatic initiative primarily aims to bring together all influential and active southern figures and leaders, based on the principles of transparency, non-exclusion, and non-discrimination among the various factions.
A comprehensive vision for a political solution
Al-Jaber indicated that the strategic objective of this gathering is to develop a comprehensive and unified vision for just solutions that address the Southern issue fairly, fulfilling the aspirations and will of the people of the South. This step is a cornerstone and a practical prelude to seriously addressing the Southern issue at the comprehensive political dialogue table to end the entire Yemeni crisis. This approach reflects the Kingdom's deep understanding that stability in Yemen cannot be achieved without addressing the root causes of the outstanding issues, foremost among them the Southern issue, as an integral part of a comprehensive national solution.
Prioritizing the national interest
In a related context, the Saudi ambassador praised the courageous decisions taken by the leaders of the Southern Transitional Council, describing them as steps that reflect a strong commitment to the future of the southern cause and a prioritization of the public interest over narrow personal interests. He affirmed that choosing the path of dialogue under the auspices and sponsorship of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the optimal choice that will ensure the necessary international support for the success of the conference and the implementation of its outcomes on the ground.
The Saudi role and the peace process
These moves are of paramount importance at this juncture, as Saudi Arabia, as the leader of the Arab Coalition and the strongest supporter of legitimacy in Yemen, seeks to create the political conditions necessary for a transition from conflict to state-building and sustainable peace. Riyadh has consistently played the role of impartial mediator and guarantor of agreements, from the Gulf Initiative to the Riyadh Agreement, thus lending significant political and international weight to the Southern Issue Conference.
The importance of unifying the southern ranks
Observers believe that unifying the southern factions under a shared vision is a crucial step to strengthen the Yemeni government's negotiating position in any future talks for a final settlement. The fragmentation of positions and visions has hindered political progress, and therefore, the success of this Saudi-sponsored conference will provide a significant boost to the efforts of the UN envoy and the international community, which desires a stable and secure Yemen, free from internal conflicts and foreign interference.
