Al-Jawf weather: Warning of dense fog and reduced visibility until Saturday

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued an important weather alert, warning of a significant decrease in horizontal visibility due to dense fog forming over large parts of the Al-Jawf region. The alert specifically included the governorates of Qurayyat and Tabuk, as well as open areas and highways connecting these governorates, starting from the early hours of Saturday.

The center explained in its detailed report that the weather conditions will begin at 1:00 AM and continue until 10:00 AM on Saturday. Meteorological forecasts indicate that horizontal visibility may decrease sharply to between 1 and 3 kilometers, necessitating caution from motorists and residents of affected areas.

The climatic context and nature of the atmosphere in the northern region

This weather pattern is typical of the northern regions of Saudi Arabia during winter. The Al-Jawf region and its governorates are characterized by a geographical and climatic feature that makes them susceptible to a significant drop in temperatures during the night and early morning hours. This drop, combined with high surface humidity and calm winds, creates ideal conditions for water vapor condensation and the formation of radiation fog, which blankets large areas, particularly in the agricultural and open regions for which Tabuk and Qurayyat are known.

The importance of the warning and its impact on public safety

This warning is of utmost importance given the direct impact of fog on traffic flow and road safety. Highways in the Al-Jawf region are vital arteries for land transport, and visibility dropping below 3 kilometers poses a real danger, increasing the likelihood of traffic accidents if safe driving practices are not followed in these adverse weather conditions.

In this context, traffic safety experts and relevant authorities advise drivers to reduce their speed in accordance with the field of vision, and to use vehicle fog lights instead of high beams which may obstruct vision due to the reflection of light on water droplets, in addition to leaving a sufficient safety distance between vehicles to avoid rear-end collisions.

The National Center of Meteorology continues its vital role in monitoring weather changes and issuing early warnings, which contributes to raising awareness among citizens and residents, and enables service and security agencies to take the necessary measures to ensure smooth traffic flow and preserve lives and property during periods of weather fluctuations.
