Saudi Arabia condemns the targeting of Gulf states and affirms the security of the region

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the attacks targeting the territories and territorial waters of the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait. In an official statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed the Kingdom's full solidarity and unwavering support for these sister nations in confronting all threats to their security and stability, emphasizing that the security of the Arabian Gulf region is indivisible.

Regional context and history of attacks

This Saudi stance comes amid ongoing regional tensions, manifested in repeated attacks by armed groups, most notably the Houthi movement in Yemen, against civilian and economic targets in the Gulf states. These attacks, often carried out using drones and ballistic missiles, not only target vital infrastructure such as airports and energy facilities, but also seek to destabilize the region and threaten international maritime security and global energy supplies. The Iranian-backed Houthi group has claimed responsibility for numerous previous attacks on Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, making any targeting of other Gulf states part of an escalating pattern aimed at expanding the conflict.

The importance and impact of the Saudi position

The Saudi condemnation carries significant weight given the Kingdom's political and economic influence in the Arab and Islamic worlds. It represents not merely a diplomatic stance, but a clear message of deterrence that any attack on any of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states is considered an attack on the Kingdom's own security. This position reinforces shared Gulf solidarity and underscores unity in the face of external threats, which is a cornerstone of the GCC's joint defense strategy. Regionally and internationally, such stances compel the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in condemning these terrorist acts and taking decisive action against those behind them, whether through sanctions or by cutting off their funding sources, in order to maintain international peace and security and protect the vital shipping lanes upon which the global economy depends.

In closing its statement, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reiterated its call to the international community to play its role in rejecting and putting an end to these attacks, and to confront all those who support them, stressing the right of the countries of the region to take all necessary measures to defend their territories and protect their citizens and residents in accordance with international law.
