Saudi Arabia condemns Israeli occupation provocations at Al-Aqsa Mosque

Saudi Arabia rejects any tampering with the historical status of Jerusalem

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through an official statement issued by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the repeated provocative actions carried out by officials in the Israeli occupation authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque. This firm condemnation comes amidst escalating tensions in occupied Jerusalem, which threaten serious repercussions for security and stability throughout the region.

Details of recent Israeli violations

The latest of these violations was the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by an official in the Israeli occupation government, under heavy guard and direct protection from the occupation police. The provocations did not stop there; another Israeli official raised the occupation authorities' flag within the courtyards of the Noble Sanctuary, a move that constitutes a blatant challenge to the feelings of millions of Muslims worldwide and a clear violation of the sanctity of the holy site, which represents the first Qibla and the third holiest site in Islam.

Saudi Arabia's unwavering stance on the Palestinian issue

In this context, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in its statement, emphasized the Kingdom's categorical rejection of anything that would prejudice the historical and legal status quo in the city of Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites. Riyadh affirmed that these systematic actions only serve to fuel the conflict and undermine any regional and international efforts aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

Historical context and current situation in the Temple Mount

Historically, Al-Aqsa Mosque has been subject to the “status quo” (or “status quo”) affirmed in numerous international treaties and agreements over the decades. This status quo stipulates that the Islamic Waqf is the sole authority responsible for managing the mosque's affairs and that prayer there is restricted to Muslims. However, recent years have witnessed a marked increase in Israeli occupation attempts to alter this reality through repeated incursions and the provision of political and security cover for settlers and extremist officials to conduct provocative tours within the mosque's courtyards, a clear violation of international law.

An urgent call for international community accountability

At both the regional and international levels, these practices carry grave implications; they not only threaten to drag the region into a new cycle of violence, but also blatantly disregard all relevant international and Security Council resolutions concerning the Palestinian question. Therefore, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reiterates its urgent appeal to the international community to assume its responsibilities and intervene immediately to halt these practices, which violate international laws and norms.

The Kingdom also called for the Israeli occupation authorities to be held accountable for their serious and ongoing violations against Islamic holy sites and the continuous attacks on innocent civilians in the State of Palestine, stressing its permanent and historical support for the brotherly Palestinian people in obtaining their legitimate rights and establishing their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
