Saudi Arabia condemns the targeting of UNIFIL forces in Lebanon | Call for accountability
The Kingdom reiterates its categorical rejection of any attack on international forces
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's strong condemnation of the attack targeting UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) forces in southern Lebanon, which resulted in the death of one soldier and injuries to others. In an official statement, the Ministry emphasized the Kingdom's complete and unequivocal rejection of such attacks targeting peacekeepers and humanitarian personnel, reaffirming Saudi Arabia's unwavering support for the security, stability, and sovereignty of Lebanon.
The Kingdom offered its deepest condolences to the family of the victim and expressed its sincere wishes for a speedy recovery for all those injured. It also called for an immediate and transparent investigation to hold all perpetrators accountable and bring them to justice, ensuring that such tragic incidents, which threaten the safety of international mission personnel and undermine peacekeeping efforts in the region, are not repeated.
A dangerous escalation threatens the stability of southern Lebanon
This attack comes amid escalating tensions on Lebanon’s southern border, raising serious concerns about the sustainability of the relative calm that has prevailed in the area since the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 in 2006. Targeting peacekeepers is not only a blatant violation of international law, but also an attempt to destabilize a highly sensitive region. UNIFIL serves as a vital stabilizing force, monitoring the cessation of hostilities and supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces in extending their control over all of southern Lebanon.
