Saudi aid to Yemen: Medical and food support through the King Salman Center

As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its relief arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, continues to provide diverse packages of vital assistance to the brotherly Yemeni people, aiming to alleviate the severity of the humanitarian crisis plaguing the country. The latest projects included the provision of specialized medical services and urgent food aid in several Yemeni governorates, benefiting thousands of the most vulnerable individuals and families.

Background to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen

Yemen has been experiencing one of the world's worst humanitarian crises for years, according to United Nations reports. The ongoing conflict has led to the near-total collapse of basic infrastructure, particularly in the health sector, leaving millions without access to essential medical care. Mass displacement and a deteriorating economy have also caused severe food insecurity, with a large portion of the population now entirely dependent on humanitarian aid for survival. In this context, relief initiatives are of paramount importance in saving lives and preserving human dignity.

Specialized support for amputees in Aden

Among its specialized medical projects, the Prosthetics and Rehabilitation Center in Aden Governorate provided a range of services to 659 beneficiaries who had lost limbs during April 2024. A total of 1,945 services were provided, including the manufacturing, fitting, and rehabilitation of prosthetics, as well as physical therapy sessions and specialized consultations. Males constituted 66% of the beneficiaries, while females comprised 34%. The figures also show that 56% of the beneficiaries were internally displaced persons (IDPs), reflecting the scale of the tragedy that has befallen forcibly displaced communities.

Kidney dialysis services in Al Mahrah

In Al Mahrah Governorate, the dialysis center in Al Ghaydah District continued to provide vital medical services with support from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center. During April 2024, the center received 134 patients, 55 of whom received 389 scheduled, life-saving dialysis sessions, in addition to 10 emergency sessions. Seventy-nine patients also received consultations and medical examinations at the kidney disease clinic. This assistance helps fill a significant gap in healthcare services, as kidney failure patients face considerable difficulties in accessing the regular treatment necessary for their survival.

Food baskets for needy families in Abyan

In the area of food security, the center distributed 600 food baskets to the most vulnerable and displaced families in the Jul al-Sada Miklan camp in Khanfar district, Abyan governorate, benefiting 4,200 individuals from 600 families. This assistance falls under the second phase of the 2024 Emergency Food Interventions Project in Yemen, which aims to provide the minimum nutritional requirements for families suffering from severe food insecurity.

The importance and impact of aid

These projects underscore the pivotal role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting Yemen's humanitarian stability. Locally, this aid directly contributes to saving lives, improving the quality of life for those affected, and restoring hope to broad segments of society. Regionally and internationally, these efforts strengthen the global humanitarian response to the Yemeni crisis and highlight the importance of international solidarity in the face of major humanitarian disasters.
