Rain forecast in Saudi Arabia: 4 regions to be affected until the end of the week
The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia announced its forecast of continued rainfall across four major regions until the end of next week. The center explained that the outputs of the advanced Saudi numerical weather model indicate that this rainy weather system will be particularly concentrated over the highlands of Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha regions, in addition to the Makkah region. The center urged everyone to take precautions and follow its official reports.
The climatic context of the weather situation
These forecasts come within the context of typical weather patterns in the southwestern highlands of the Kingdom during this time of year. Unlike most of the Kingdom, which has a dry desert climate, these areas are influenced by humid monsoon winds originating from the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. This leads to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds and rainfall, which is sometimes heavy. These monsoon rains play a vital role in supporting agriculture in these regions, replenishing wells and dams, and moderating the hot weather, making them a lifeline for the local population and the region's unique ecosystem.
The importance of forecasts and their potential impact
These rains bring much good, but they can also pose a danger if they are heavy and continuous. This underscores the importance of the warnings issued by the National Center of Meteorology, which contribute to raising awareness among citizens and residents. Locally, the rains are expected to cause flash floods in valleys and ravines, necessitating complete avoidance of these areas to prevent any accidents. Traffic on mountain roads may also be affected due to reduced visibility or rockfalls. Regionally, this weather system is part of broader weather patterns affecting the Arabian Peninsula and is being carefully monitored to understand long-term climate changes in the region.
A call for caution and adherence to instructions
The center emphasized that it is continuously monitoring weather maps and numerical systems around the clock to ensure the accuracy of information and provide the necessary protection for lives and property. It reiterated its call for everyone to exercise extreme caution, stay away from floodplains and valleys during rainfall, and adhere to the instructions of the relevant authorities, especially the General Directorate of Civil Defense, to ensure everyone's safety during this period.
