Today's weather in Saudi Arabia (Saturday): Rain and strong winds
National Center of Meteorology weather forecast
The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia announced details of the expected weather conditions for Saturday, warning citizens and residents of unstable weather including thunderstorms, rain, and active surface winds that will stir up dust and sand in several regions. These forecasts are part of the center's regular monitoring to ensure the safety of lives and property, as weather reports play a vital role in regulating daily life and land and air transportation.
Dust-raising wind activity
According to the official statement issued by the Meteorology Department, surface winds are expected to pick up, stirring up dust and sand, which may reduce horizontal visibility across large parts of Najran, Riyadh, the Eastern Province, the Northern Borders, Al-Jawf, and Tabuk regions. This weather phenomenon is common in the Arabian Peninsula, especially during seasonal transitions, when the Kingdom is affected by low-pressure systems that cause increased wind activity. Drivers on highways are advised to exercise caution, and those with respiratory conditions are advised to take necessary precautions.
Thunderstorms over the southwestern highlands
In a related context, the chance of thunderstorms and rain remains high over parts of the highlands of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah. These regions are characterized by their mountainous terrain and elevated topography, which contributes to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds and seasonal rainfall. This rainfall is of great local importance, as it helps replenish water reserves, supports the agricultural sector upon which these regions depend, and stimulates domestic tourism, since visitors flock to these highlands to enjoy the mild climate and stunning natural scenery.
High temperatures in the western sector
Regarding temperatures, the report indicated that the western parts of the Kingdom will experience a gradual increase in maximum temperatures. This temperature variation across the Kingdom reflects Saudi Arabia's vast geographical area, which encompasses diverse climates ranging from arid desert in the central and eastern regions to temperate mountainous areas in the southwest, and hot and humid or dry conditions along the coasts.
Maritime navigation conditions in the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf
Given the economic and commercial importance of maritime navigation, the center detailed the sea conditions. In the Red Sea, surface winds are westerly to northwesterly at speeds ranging from 20 to 40 km/h, with wave heights of 1 to 2 meters and a slight to moderate sea state. In the Arabian Gulf, winds are northwesterly to northerly at the same speed (20-40 km/h), with wave heights of 1 to 2 meters and a slight to moderate sea state. These relatively stable sea conditions facilitate the movement of commercial vessels and fishing boats upon which local and regional markets depend.
