Weather in Saudi Arabia: Temperatures and areas affected by dust and fog
The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia revealed on Saturday details of the expected weather conditions across the Kingdom, explaining the variation in temperatures and weather phenomena ranging from stability in some areas to surface wind activity that stirs up dust and sand in other areas, in addition to fog formation and light rain falling on limited parts.
Climate variation and its impact on regions
Saudi Arabia is characterized by its vast geographical diversity, resulting in significant variations in climatic patterns from one region to another. At this time of year, the northern regions typically experience a noticeable drop in temperatures, approaching freezing point. This was reflected in meteorological data showing that the city of Tarif recorded a low of only 1 degree Celsius, and Al-Qurayyat recorded 2 degrees Celsius. In contrast, the western coastal areas, such as Mecca and Jeddah, maintain warmer temperatures, tending towards hot during the day, with Mecca recording a high of 32 degrees Celsius.
Weather phenomena and warnings
The report indicated surface wind activity stirring up dust and sand, which could reduce horizontal visibility in parts of Riyadh, Madinah, and Hail regions. This phenomenon is common in open and desert areas, urging drivers to exercise caution while driving on the highways connecting these cities.
The center also warned of fog formation during the night and early morning hours in parts of the Eastern Province (Dammam, Jubail) and the southwestern highlands (Asir, Jazan), in addition to the northern borders, which increases the importance of adhering to traffic safety instructions.
