Weather in Saudi Arabia: Rain, active winds, and varying temperatures

Saudi Arabia's weather is experiencing significant variations, ranging from high temperatures to thunderstorms

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued its daily weather report, revealing significant variations in temperatures and weather patterns across the Kingdom. While cities like Dammam and Riyadh are experiencing high temperatures approaching 40 degrees Celsius, other areas such as Mecca and Abha are witnessing thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds, reflecting the unique climatic diversity of the Kingdom's geography.

Saudi Arabia's weather is characterized by a unique climatic diversity

Saudi Arabia is generally known for its hot desert climate, but its vast size and diverse topography create significant climatic variations. Stretching from the Red Sea coast in the west to the Arabian Gulf in the east, the Kingdom is punctuated by towering mountain ranges in the southwest, such as the Asir Mountains, and expansive sandy deserts like the Empty Quarter and the Great Nafud. This geographical diversity results in considerable weather variations; coastal areas experience high humidity, while inland regions are arid and extremely hot in the summer and bitterly cold in the winter. The southwestern highlands, however, enjoy a more temperate climate and relatively abundant seasonal rainfall.

Weather details and expected temperatures

According to the meteorological statement, the capital, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province are expected to experience relatively hot weather, with highs reaching 37 degrees Celsius in Riyadh and 38 degrees in Dammam. These conditions will be accompanied by active winds and thunderstorms in Riyadh, while Dammam will experience partly cloudy skies. Meanwhile, rain will continue in parts of the western and southwestern regions. In Mecca and Medina, temperatures are expected to reach 39 degrees Celsius, with thunderstorms and active winds also forecast. In the mountain resorts, the weather will be more moderate, with highs reaching 25 degrees in Abha and 24 degrees in Al-Baha. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected, enhancing the area's natural beauty but necessitating caution due to the risk of flash floods in valleys. Northern regions such as Tabuk, Arar, and Sakaka will experience dusty conditions due to active winds and suspended dust particles, with temperatures in the low thirties. These weather conditions may affect horizontal visibility, requiring drivers to exercise caution on highways.

Weather effects on daily life and weather warnings

These weather fluctuations directly impact various aspects of daily life for citizens and residents. High temperatures increase electricity consumption, while heavy rains and potential flash floods necessitate heightened preparedness from relevant authorities such as Civil Defense and Highway Patrol. The National Center of Meteorology advises everyone to stay updated on weather forecasts, avoid open areas during thunderstorms, and exercise caution when visibility is reduced due to dust. The Center continues its vital role in monitoring and forecasting weather phenomena, providing accurate information that contributes to protecting lives and property and supporting various vital sectors in the Kingdom.
