Saudi Arabia rains today: Floods in Al-Jawf, Hail, and the Northern Borders region

Large areas of Saudi Arabia witnessed weather fluctuations and a distinctive rainy spell on Saturday, with moderate to heavy rainfall in the Al-Jawf, Hail and Northern Borders regions, leading to the flow of valleys and streams and the saturation of the land, in a scene that heralds a prosperous spring season.
Rainfall details in Al-Jawf region
In the Al-Jawf region, the rainfall this evening was concentrated with moderate to heavy downpours, particularly affecting the eastern parts of Sakaka city and the Adhfa center. Moderate rainfall also extended to the Abu Ajram center. Residents documented the flow of streams and the saturation of the soil, a positive indicator for the region's agricultural sector. Al-Jawf is known as the "breadbasket of the Kingdom" and is famous for its olive and date palm cultivation. It relies heavily on such rainy seasons to replenish groundwater reserves and irrigate farms.
Weather conditions in Hail and the Northern Borders
Simultaneously, the Hail region experienced light to moderate rainfall, including in Hail city and several surrounding governorates, towns, and villages, leading to the flow of some valleys and streams. In the Northern Borders region, specifically in Rafha governorate, thunderstorms of varying intensity, accompanied by hail, brought exceptionally wintry conditions to the area.
Environmental and economic importance of rainfall
These rains hold immense importance that extends far beyond the immediate scene. Environmentally, they contribute to clearing the air and reducing dust, in addition to their vital role in the growth of wild vegetation. The northern regions, including Hail, are renowned as prime destinations for hikers and camping enthusiasts during the winter and spring seasons. This rainfall is expected to contribute to the emergence of seasonal wild plants such as lavender and clover, thus revitalizing local ecotourism in the coming weeks.
Safety warnings and guidelines
With continued chances of rain and overcast skies, calls for caution remain in place. Authorities, such as the Civil Defense, typically emphasize the need to stay away from valleys and floodplains, and to avoid low-lying areas, to ensure everyone's safety and enjoy the rainy weather without risk.
