Weather forecast for Saudi Arabia on Sunday: Winds, dust, and thunderstorms

Introduction to weather conditions and forecasts

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia announced details of the expected weather conditions for Sunday across the Kingdom. These forecasts are part of the Center's ongoing efforts to provide early warnings and accurate bulletins aimed at protecting lives and property and facilitating the daily movement of citizens and residents. These bulletins play a vital role in daily planning, especially given the climatic changes the region is experiencing.

Geographical diversity and its impact on Saudi Arabia's climate

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is characterized by its vast geographical area and diverse topography, ranging from coastal plains to towering mountains and expansive deserts. This unique geographical diversity creates a noticeable variation in weather conditions across the Kingdom's different regions on the same day. While the central, eastern, and northern regions experience dry weather and dust storms, the southwestern highlands receive seasonal rainfall that contributes to enhancing vegetation cover and supporting the local agricultural sector.

Sunday's weather details: Active winds and blowing dust

According to the official statement issued by the National Center for Meteorology, the impact of active surface winds stirring up dust and sand will continue, potentially leading to reduced horizontal visibility. This condition affects large parts of the Najran, Riyadh, Eastern Province, Northern Borders, Al-Jawf, and Tabuk regions, as well as parts of the Hail and Qassim regions. Residents of these areas, especially those with respiratory conditions and asthma, are advised to take necessary precautions, and drivers are urged to exercise caution on highways.

Rainy thunderstorms over the highlands

On the other side of the Kingdom, the chance of thunderstorms and rain, possibly accompanied by strong downdrafts, remains. This weather pattern is concentrated over parts of the highlands of Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha regions, extending to the Makkah region. These rains are of great regional and local importance, as they replenish groundwater reservoirs and revitalize wadis. However, relevant authorities, such as the Civil Defense, consistently warn against being in wadis and floodplains during rainfall to ensure public safety.

Maritime navigation status: Red Sea

Marine bulletins are of international and local importance due to the Kingdom's strategic location. Regarding the Red Sea, forecasts indicate that surface winds will be northwesterly to northerly at speeds ranging from 20 to 43 km/h in the northern and central parts, and northwesterly to westerly at speeds of 15 to 30 km/h in the southern part. Wave heights will range from one to two meters in the north and central regions, and from half a meter to one and a half meters in the south, resulting in calm to moderate sea conditions, allowing for cautious navigation and fishing.

Maritime navigation status: Arabian Gulf

In the Arabian Gulf, a vital artery for regional and international trade, surface winds will be northwesterly to northerly at speeds of 14 to 32 km/h in the northern part, and 20 to 40 km/h in the central and southern parts. Wave heights will range from half a meter to one and a half meters in the north, and from one to two meters in the central and southern parts, with sea conditions remaining slight to moderate.
