Seven people were arrested for violating Hajj regulations in Mecca; security measures have been tightened

Saudi Arabia's Hajj security forces announced the arrest of seven people in Mecca for blatantly violating Hajj regulations and instructions in place this year. This action comes as part of the authorities' intensive efforts to ensure a safe and organized Hajj season for pilgrims. The violations included Saudi citizens transporting Egyptian and Pakistani residents and expatriates who were attempting to enter the holy city to perform the rituals without the necessary official permits.

The general context for organizing Hajj and ensuring the safety of pilgrims

As the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia places paramount importance on organizing the Hajj pilgrimage, the world’s largest annual religious gathering. Over the decades, the Kingdom has developed a sophisticated infrastructure and complex administrative and logistical systems to accommodate millions of pilgrims and ensure their safety and comfort. The Hajj Regulations and Instructions are an integral part of this system, designed to prevent overcrowding and stampedes, facilitate crowd movement, ensure the equitable distribution of resources, and provide efficient health and relief services. Obtaining an official Hajj permit is not merely an administrative procedure; it is a fundamental tool for managing the massive numbers of pilgrims and mitigating the risks associated with unregulated Hajj, which places immense pressure on available services and jeopardizes everyone’s safety.

The importance of adhering to the laws and its impact on the Hajj season

The adherence of pilgrims and organizers to regulations has a direct impact on the success of the Hajj season on all levels. Locally, the implementation of these regulations reflects the rule of law and the state's ability to manage this global event efficiently and effectively. Regionally and internationally, the successful organization of the Hajj reinforces the Kingdom's position as a leader of the Islamic world and its responsibility for the well-being of pilgrims coming from all corners of the earth. Violations, such as attempting to enter without a permit, not only expose the violators to legal accountability and fines, but also negatively affect the experience of pilgrims who complied with the procedures. The seven violators were apprehended and legal procedures were initiated against them before their referral to the competent authorities.

In this context, Public Security reiterated its call to all citizens and residents to fully comply with Hajj regulations and instructions, emphasizing that the safety and security of pilgrims is a red line that cannot be compromised. It also urged everyone to report any fraudulent Hajj campaigns or violators attempting to disrupt this great ritual by calling 911 in the Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and Eastern regions, and 999 in the rest of the Kingdom.
