The Crown Prince offers condolences on the death of former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Hadi

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, made a telephone call on Monday to Mr. Nasser Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, expressing his deepest condolences on the passing of his father, His Excellency the former President of the Republic of Yemen, Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi. This gesture underscores the profound historical and fraternal ties between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The Crown Prince's initiative to offer condolences on the death of the former Yemeni President is not merely a humanitarian duty, but also carries significant political implications, reflecting the continued Saudi support for Yemeni legitimacy and regional stability.

During the call, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince prayed to God Almighty to grant the deceased His abundant mercy and admit him to Paradise, and to grant his family and loved ones patience and solace. For his part, Mr. Nasser Abdul Rabbo Hadi expressed his deepest gratitude and appreciation to His Royal Highness the Crown Prince for his sincere brotherly sentiments and condolences, asking God to protect His Royal Highness and reward him abundantly.

Hadi's era: years of formidable challenges

The death of President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi marks the closing of a significant chapter in Yemen's modern history. Hadi assumed power in 2012 following a popular uprising that ousted former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, as part of the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative aimed at achieving a peaceful transfer of power. He led a difficult transitional period and oversaw the National Dialogue Conference, which aimed to draft a new constitution for the country. However, his presidency faced formidable challenges, most notably the Houthi takeover of the capital, Sana'a, in September 2014, plunging the country into a devastating civil war. Hadi and his government were forced to relocate to Aden and then to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, where he led the internationally recognized government, which has been supported by a Saudi-led military coalition since March 2015.

The Crown Prince offers condolences on the death of the former Yemeni president: A message of support that transcends protocol

The Crown Prince's call cannot be viewed in isolation from the context of Saudi Arabia's pivotal role in the Yemeni conflict. The Kingdom has not only been a major supporter of President Hadi's legitimate government, but also a safe haven for him and many other Yemeni officials. Therefore, this message of condolence carries a clear reaffirmation of Saudi Arabia's continued commitment to Yemen and its legitimate leadership, currently embodied by the Presidential Leadership Council, to which President Hadi transferred his powers in April 2022. This gesture also reflects the Saudi leadership's personal appreciation for the late president, who remained a strategic ally of the Kingdom in confronting regional challenges. This call is seen as a confirmation that Saudi-Yemeni relations are deeply rooted, transcending individuals and positions, and are based on shared neighborly ties and a common destiny.
