Saudi-Cypriot talks in Nicosia to enhance joint cooperation

As part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to enhance the international presence of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and strengthen its relations with friendly countries in the European Union and the Mediterranean region, His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Engineer Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji, held an important meeting today in the Cypriot capital, Nicosia, with His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr. Constantinos Koumbous.

This high-level meeting reflects the depth of the growing relations between Riyadh and Nicosia, during which a comprehensive review of the course of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries was conducted, and ways to strengthen them and push them towards broader horizons in various political, economic and investment fields were discussed.

Dimensions of the visit and its strategic importance

This visit is of particular importance given the geopolitical shifts taking place in the region and the world. Cyprus, as a member of the European Union, represents a vital gateway for cooperation between the Kingdom and the European continent. Conversely, Cyprus views Saudi Arabia as a cornerstone of stability in the Middle East and a strong economic partner, especially in light of the major economic transformations the Kingdom is undertaking as part of its Vision 2030.

The talks touched on an exchange of views on several regional and international issues of common interest, as the two countries share the vision of the need to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts, and the importance of joint action to enhance security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East region.

Areas of joint cooperation

The two sides discussed opportunities to develop cooperation in several vital sectors, including energy, tourism, and trade, leveraging the strategic geographic location of both countries. Through these diplomatic efforts, the Kingdom seeks to build strategic partnerships that serve its national interests and contribute to diversifying its international alliances.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Republic of Cyprus, Fawaz bin Abdulrahman Al-Shubaili, which confirms the leadership’s keenness to follow up on the outcomes of these meetings and to activate diplomatic communication channels continuously to ensure the implementation of what is agreed upon in a way that serves the interests of the two friendly peoples.
