Saudi dates conquer 1,500 new global stores and lead exports

In a strategic move reflecting the rapid growth of Saudi Arabia's non-oil economy, the National Center for Palms and Dates announced a new milestone: the inclusion of products from several leading Saudi date companies in over 1,500 additional retail outlets worldwide. This step reinforces the Kingdom's position as the world's leading date supplier and embodies the goals of Vision 2030, which aims to diversify income sources and boost national exports.
Export Empowerment Initiative: Figures and Implications
This announcement culminates the efforts of the "Empowering Saudi Dates Exports" initiative, which aims directly to remove obstacles facing Saudi exporters and open new horizons in international markets. The center explained that this expansion included the inclusion of 10 national companies in massive global supply chains, distributed across 15 major retail markets in more than 14 countries. This broad geographical reach not only reflects the quality of the Saudi product but also confirms the efficiency of the supply chains and logistics services developed by the Kingdom to ensure that dates reach the end consumer fresh and of high quality across different continents.
Saudi dates: a cultural heritage and an economic powerhouse
The date palm and date sector in the Kingdom is not merely an economic contributor, but also an integral part of Saudi Arabia's cultural and heritage identity. The date palm is the Kingdom's emblem and a symbol of generosity and hospitality, and has been intertwined with the history of the Arabian Peninsula for thousands of years. Today, this cultural symbolism is transforming into a soft economic force, as the Kingdom has successfully converted this popular heritage into a sophisticated industry that relies on the latest technologies in agriculture, harvesting, packaging, and processing. This has made Saudi dates globally sought after not only as a fruit, but also as a key ingredient in the health food industry.
Global leadership in numbers
Official statistics indicate that Saudi Arabia leads the world in date exports, with annual production exceeding 1.9 million tons and exports valued at approximately 1.7 billion Saudi riyals. Saudi dates now reach consumers in 133 countries, reflecting global confidence in the Kingdom's quality and food safety standards. This growth is driven by increasing global demand for healthy foods and natural sugar alternatives, with dates being classified as a "superfood" rich in energy and minerals.
A promising future for manufacturing industries
Through the National Center for Palms and Dates, the Kingdom is aiming to move beyond exporting raw dates. The current focus is on date-based processing industries, such as date syrup, date paste, and date powder, for use in the global confectionery and baking industries. This approach increases the market value of Saudi products and ensures the sustainability of the agricultural sector, contributing effectively to the GDP and providing promising job opportunities for Saudi youth in agriculture, manufacturing, and international marketing.
