Saudi Arabia: 4 drones targeting Riyadh intercepted and destroyed
The official spokesman for the Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces successfully intercepted and destroyed four booby-trapped drones that had been launched systematically and deliberately to target civilian objects and civilians in the capital, Riyadh, and other areas, in a hostile escalation that was dealt with with high efficiency.
The official spokesperson explained that air defenses successfully detected and engaged hostile drones according to established rules of engagement. A drone was intercepted east of Riyadh, and three other drones were shot down and destroyed before reaching their targets. This operation underscores the high level of readiness and constant vigilance of the Saudi Armed Forces in protecting the Kingdom's airspace.
In a related context, reports and field observations indicated that some of these attempts targeted vital areas, including attempts in the Empty Quarter, suggesting an attack on energy resources that not only belong to the Kingdom but also affect the global economy and the security of energy supplies. Thanks be to God, the air defense systems proved their utmost effectiveness in neutralizing these threats without any significant human or material damage.
These attacks constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and its customary rules, as targeting residential areas and civilians is a war crime. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia consistently emphasizes its legitimate right to defend its territory, citizens, and residents, and affirms that it will take all necessary and deterrent measures to protect its national assets and stop such cowardly terrorist attacks.
It is worth noting that the Joint Forces and the Ministry of Defense possess advanced defense systems capable of detecting and intercepting all types of aerial threats, whether ballistic missiles or drones, thus enhancing security and stability throughout the Kingdom. This defensive success sends a clear message about the Kingdom's ability to deter any attempt to undermine its security or the stability of the region, amidst widespread international condemnation of such practices that threaten regional and international peace and security.
