Saudi Defense Ministry announces destruction of 3 drones in Riyadh and the Empty Quarter

The official spokesman for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, announced on Saturday that the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces successfully intercepted and destroyed three booby-trapped drones launched by hostile militias towards the Kingdom’s territory, in an attempt to target civilian objects and vital facilities.

Details of the defensive operation

In an official statement, Brigadier General Al-Maliki explained that air defenses were able to detect and track aerial threats with high precision, intercepting and destroying one drone in the airspace east of Riyadh. Simultaneously, the forces intercepted and destroyed two other drones flying over the Empty Quarter, specifically in the direction of the giant Shaybah oil field, which is a cornerstone of the Kingdom's energy infrastructure.

Protecting global energy security

The targeting of the Shaybah oil field in the Empty Quarter is a desperate attempt to undermine global energy security, given the field's paramount strategic importance to international oil supplies. Located in a remote area amidst sand dunes, the Shaybah field symbolizes the Kingdom's ability to utilize its resources even in the most challenging geographical conditions. The Ministry of Defense affirms that these hostile acts target not only the Kingdom and its national assets, but also the lifeblood of the global economy and vital energy supplies.

High readiness of the armed forces

The Ministry of Defense affirmed that the Saudi Armed Forces are taking all necessary and deterrent measures to protect innocent civilians and civilian infrastructure, and possess a high level of combat readiness that enables them to counter such barbaric attacks. Military experts indicated that the successful interception in geographically dispersed locations (Riyadh and the Empty Quarter) reflects the efficiency of Saudi air defense systems and the development of their capabilities in monitoring, tracking, and immediately engaging hostile targets before they achieve their objectives.

Context of events and regional stability

These attempts are part of a series of hostile acts that threaten regional and international security, and which have been met with widespread condemnation from the international community and UN organizations. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia consistently emphasizes its legitimate right to defend its territory, citizens, and residents, while continuing to support efforts to stabilize the region. Protecting vital facilities such as the Shaybah oil field is not merely a domestic matter; it is a responsibility towards the stability of global energy markets, which depend heavily on the safe and continuous flow of oil from the Kingdom.
